You could say that about the entire supplement industry. The fact is there is no faster/easier way to incorporate a bunch of good nutrients into your self than things like these. They're part of a "balanced diet" that may not include such a wide variety of roots and vegetables.

You should actually get some of those nutrients daily/weekly/whatever. Vitamins A/C/B12 and iron and calcium. But here's the thing, I don't think anyone knows even a rough ballpark of what a real daily value should be. And you get a decent amount of those even eating a diet that's partially shit.

If you're concerned about micronutrients, count your calories for a month or so. I'm betting you'll hit at least 50% on most micros easily. The effort involved is well worth the money you'll save on overpriced supplements.

I'm curious what you mean by "tastes terribly healthy". What does "healthy" taste like? This is a serious question, by the way, as I've never had any of these supplements and when I read "tastes terribly healthy" I see "tastes terrible."

Except there is, you just eat some healthy food. The supplement industry is a gigantic con that hurts public health, not helps it.

There are several problems with supplements like this, one being that the label can be an outright lie and you have no way of knowing because this kind of stuff is not checked or controlled, by the FDA or anyone else. Secondly, most of the stuff on that label has no scientific backing whatsoever, and even when a food itself has scientific backing taking distilled components of a food does not confer the benefits of eating that food. And, to drag it on more, there is generally no need for you to "supplement" with vitamins and minerals unless you are deficient. "Needing to" is defined as going to a doctor, getting a blood test, and having the doctor tell you that you are deficient in x, and to take some supplements.

Honestly, I could go on about this. By and large, supplements are a huge and complete waste of money.

Tastes kind of like how alfalfa smells, like ground up grass clippings lol. Throw it in a smoothie and you'll mask most of it.

Right on Denaut - I agree seeking a doc's advice is best before going on a supplement rampage just to confirm what you're doing is in your best interest. Lots of these ingredients aren't "distilled" in the sense that they are shadows of the original though, they are just mashed up plants refined into a powder with lots of them being organic. It needs to be frozen to prevent it spoiling even.

Regarding supplements, I strongly suggest taking omega-3 (high DHA/EPA) if you have a normal western diet (corn fed protein).

Personally, I take a vitamin/joint complex (Orange Triad), due to all the lifting I do. Between that and the omega-3, it helps a lot with tendon/ligament pain and repair. I also have a green (Oximega) that I got for free, but I've only taken it like 3 times since it's just kind of a pain in the ass drinking more stuff.

At a minimum, daily, I take 2 fish oil pills, 6 vitamins, 2 protein shakes, and creatine. The Orange Triad was also free. Doubt I'd pay for it, since it's fucking expensive otherwise.

This is more general health and exercise but certainly fat loss related.

Very good article on the subject of Crossfit, and as always Rip has a quotable line: "CrossFit is largely about abs." No argument. That said I take issue with what he dismisses as merely "exercise". I would substitute the word conditioning which I think that is a better description and something I feel he undervalues. He is right, in my view, about diminishing returns. In my experience if you only do Crossfit, strength gains would come at first, but then slow and eventually stop. I feel the same is to be said for skill work. AMRAP for time is not conducive to strength or skill. Which is why this line also stood out to me: "But if they'll let you, each gym also is a place where you can do very productive strength training" So, make sure you're going someplace that will not only let you but encourage you to do very productive strength training.

Down another kilo. Would like it to be going faster, but at least I'm moving in the right direction. Another 2 weeks like this and I'll be below 100kg for the first time since I spent 2011 binging on junk food and oxycontin.

On that note, anyone know of a decent app for timing running? I use a treadmill set up in front of a TV atm, I'm supposed to alternate speed every minute but I miss it pretty often since I'm focused on the screen instead of the clock on the tradmill (which is the only way I can do it without being bored to tears(, what I need is something that can be set up to give off a single loud noise at regular intervals - surprisingly I haven't been able to find one so far :| Suggestions?

Unfortunately, the majority of Crossfit gyms are only open for the WOD's andmaybean hour of open gym a day. Which to me is ridiculous. If I'm paying $100-200 a month, I should be able to use that fucking place whenever I want.

How the hell are crossfit gyms $100-200 a month? Nothing but fucking boxes, couple of bars and some kettle bells. You could fucking buy that shit and more in a couple months at that cost.

I dont know about most but I'm sure a lot are just WODs. Mine has dedicated strength time in the crossfit program, an olympic lifting program, and a pure strength training program all offered. Rippetoe came to our gym for one of his seminars back when they were together. I am guessing this will be the trend going forward, but who knows. i wouldnt pay for just crossfit personally.

Social interaction and coaching is the short answer. If that's not your thing then yes you can easily get the stuff you need and do this in your garage or what have you. Probably cant in a local gym though as they wont have bumper plates and will shit their pants if you try to Olympic lift.

Well done on the loss

If you have a smart phone I'd say look into some of the c25k or c210k apps. The one I have tells you when to up or lower the speed over the 30 minutes along with what speed you should roughly be doing. If you have one earbud in you would still be able to watch tv and just get interrupted every few minutes with a voice in your ear telling you to adjust speed

I recommend WODtimer. its a basic programmable interval training tool for free.

So I'd lost like 200 pounds a few years ago. Stopped and just worked on maintaining my weight. Worked like a boss. Went as low as 225, but normalized to 230.

Just started working on losing the last ~40 I need to. I'm back below 230. Here's hoping the downward trend continues.
