What do you mean by "a la carte"? If you mean keto diets that don't require you to buy special meals, supplements or shakes then you can pretty much choose from any popular keto diet as none of them require you to buy anything other than normal food. Mostly all of them spell out very specific directions on what/how you should eat as well. As far as studies go, most of the diet authors have only done smaller controlled studies, whereas third parties are usually the ones doing larger scale studies.Hey Keto folks, are there any "a la carte" Keto diet/workout plans out there, preferably from some sort of professional like a dr/dietician who has used it on a large(y) group of people? I surprisingly did not find any - maybe I'm not using the right keywords. One thing about the traditional plans is that you can go through it and learn the basics behind it and then afterwords tailor it to your needs.
Yeah, bulletproof coffee I believe it's called. I want to say it's like a half a stick of butter. And you have to forcefully emulsify it with a stick blender.Seriously? What the fuck? And he's worried about non-dairy creamer from time to time?
Could you point some of these out to me is what I'm asking.Mostly all of them spell out very specific directions on what/how you should eat as well. With such a dramatic change at such a young age, I can't imagine it being anything other than your excessive butter intake. At your age it's usually something like that or just terrible genetics, but they'd be the same genes you had 6 months ago.I told my doctor I was doing a Ketogenic diet. I didn't outright tell him I was drinking 5 tablespoons of butter as my breakfast / lunch. I was doing myfitnesspal for the past couple of weeks, should be visible.

The week of 3/16 - 3/22 is pretty normal for me.
I started to use butter to cook everything. That is the first thing that I decided was going last night. More Olive Oil, etc. I am also going to eat more typical lunches rather than just the fats I had been taking in before. Going to adjust macros and such to take in less fat over the day.

HDL: 39 (was off above, 31 > 39 was the shift)
Dude, go to his diary...Holy shit, 144g of fat? No wonder your cholesterol is all fucked up.
There is not a single keto diet plan out there that recommends "minimal" amounts of protein. At most you should be looking at a 50/50 split of remaining calories (outside of the few carbs you're eating) as fat/protein. You substitute healthy (and that is the key word) fats in place of carbs but you also will tend to eat more protein than otherwise on a keto diet as well. Supplanting carbs with cheese and butter is a terrible way to try and live a keto lifestyle. Those things are fine in moderation but your brother in law sounds like the typical keto novice who pretends he read that eating all the mayonnaise and bacon he wants is perfectly healthy.I'm no expert on keto in general but my brother in law (Professor of microbiology) who went crazy when he first started and read a bunch of pubmed articles on the subject came to the conclusion that too much protein can push you out of ketosis. The literature heavily emphasized deriving as much energy as possible from fat with only the minimal amount of protein. Things like butter, cheese and oil are great at getting more of your calories derived from fat, without pushing you protein levels too high. He also noted to me some people see a 20-30% rise in their cholesterol levels on the diet but others see a drop. Before the diet he was quite a bit more overweight and on statins to lower his cholesterol but now three+ months later he's down 40lbs and off the statins because his cholesterol is in a normal range.
For me most meals are some sort of protein and heavy helping of green veggies deep fried/cooked in butter or oil. My main problem has been maintaining the right level of salts in my body. I had to add in supplements for both Potassium (muscle pain) and Magnesium (muscle twitches).
Your body converts protein and fats into glucose by gluconeogenesis. It can do this easier and quicker with protein than fat and in some people it van take them out of ketosis. It's highly individual, though, and wouldn't spend much time worrying about itI'm no expert on keto in general but my brother in law (Professor of microbiology) who went crazy when he first started and read a bunch of pubmed articles on the subject came to the conclusion that too much protein can push you out of ketosis. My wording of minimal could have been better. I'm talking about focusing where the calories come from and not overly emphasizing meat. There is not a single keto diet plan out there that recommends "minimal" amounts of protein. Atkins told me I could eat whatever I wanted as long as I avoid carbs!Wait. Bacon isn't healthy?
You're confusing your thoughts I think. There are differences between ketogenic diets meant to treat epilepsy in children that shouldn't even really be considered by full grown adults and the Atkin's diet. But I assure you, Atkins is a ketogenic diet (during the first two phases). There are some pretty big differences between a keto diet and an atkin's diet.
