Nice job man. I have a whole section of my closet that I can't wear anymore. I wore up to a 36 waist at one point when I was ~200lbs. Now I'm 182lbs and can wear 30's! Although I'm probably more comfortable in 32's with most brands.
I wore 38s for most of my adult life, my waist was at 40 inches when I was in the air force, and when I was doing my air traffic control training I got back up to 40... except this time I had zero muscle nor cardio fitness, so it looked bad and I felt bad...

I got into 36's last week. I am still fat but it looks better at least. 5'11" 210lbs I need to figure out how to get my Moobs fixed that and the underarm/armpit fat, but with heart surgery a month back and diabeetus and gout and degenerative arthritis in the back and neck, and a pretty bum right knee...

Well I am fucked. And all my pants but 1 pair are ball flappening big on me.

Getting old sucks.

Hit a milestone last week. Was stuck at 98 pounds lost for about 3 weeks before losing a pound so I told myself the week prior no way I'm not hitting 100 pounds lost this week. So I put in some extra work last week and officially have lost over 100 pounds.

The temperature dropping here helped. A 30 minute walk on the treadmill seems like such a chore, but a 50-60m walk around the neighborhood hardly feels like exercise at all.

That is huge, good work. What are you shooting for?

I haven't really set a final number for myself. I want to get down to 180, which I know is still quite overweight for my height and re-evaluate where I'm at. From there I'll see if I want to lose another 10-20 pounds and then put on some muscle weight. I've been obese/super obese since age 4 so I just can't picture myself going too small.

If there is one thing I wish I would have put more thought into while initially dropping my weight it would have been lifting / building muscle during that process. I am not sure what your height is, but I am about 5'9" / 160 lbs. The comment of 'can't picture myself going too small' rings true, it just kind of happened. I would feel a lot better if I had 10 - 15 lbs. more muscle on my current frame, even at the same BF%. Everything is correctable with time, but there is something to be said for efficiency.

Well to be fair 15 pounds of lean mass is pretty much the holy grail for everyone. In general it's much easier to just lose weight than to put on size like that. Plus no significant muscle gain is going on while losing weight anyway so may as well drop pounds before fattening back up.

That's not true at all Warmuth lol. You can easily pack on muscle while dropping fat during the first 6 months of lifting. I meaneasily.

I'm 5'10" 148 and have decided recently to go up to 155. I stopped around 145 when I initially started to put on weight going from ~120 when I was 18 up to 145 at around 20 or 21. I've just kind of cruised there and just went into maintenance mode but decided I wanted to put a few more inches on my chest, arms and legs. Unfortunately I've somewhat forgotten how to actually put on muscle since I've been cruising for the past 8 years or so. This has been going on maybe 3 weeks now and I've only gained 1 pound but I can already see my vein definition in my arms has returned to what it was when I was putting on weight at least. My wife did also comment it appears like my chest is larger as well. I've also noticed I require at least 1 more day of rest compared to back when I was 20 doing this.

My main change is not really doing heavier weights but doing more emphasis on the negative rep. So I'm still doing my normal bench rep weight (which I'll probably have to increase in a few weeks) but just doing it much, much slower. Some deal with my bicep curls and my squats. I also do more sets. And I'm back to eating tuna like I'm Japanese.

Time under tension bruh. If you're looking for hypertrophy gains, that's the way to go. 5'10 150 sounds a little light but I don't know your body comp.

Seems like you're on the right track as far as "putting on muscle." Also, if you used to have mass it's a lot easier to pack it back on than building it in the first place. Recently read an article explaining why, the body is fascinating at times.

Eat a lot (4000 calories or so) and lift a lot and you'll gain weight/muscle. When you get bulky and a little chubby, cut the fat back off and you'll keep a few precious pounds of muscle. Do it a few more times and you can gain X pounds of muscle per year on average.

For all the bro science, it really isn't that complicated. Want to cut? Eat less. Want to gain? Eat more. Want bigger muscles? Lift weights.

Yeah the bad part is I don't really like eating or being full so I'll just take the slow roll route. I have time and I'm actually excited for my workout days now which is a sudden change from the past few years where I found going to the gym a complete chore. My body also doesn't like putting on any fat (though I'm sure that is also a byproduct of just not eating a ton) so I've never been able to do the whole bulking cycles. I just gradually gain a pound every few weeks.

A pound every few weeks is fine. I hate looking bulky too. I'm naturally very slender just probably not as much as you. I think your body reflects your eating habits averaged over time - if you're really skinny you probably just dont eat enough. And eating enough quality food is hard. Just try to eat 4000 calories of chicken and broccoli and rice, you'll want to barf.

Yeah I could eat 4k of fried chicken but probably wouldn't net me the results I want. I'm already starting to see a bit of my ab definition going away but I think that is just me spending more time doing lifting activities and neglecting my stomach exercises because I'm so exhausted. That is more just me being lazy, though. Not like it takes anything more than a few minutes to do 200 crunches and that has always worked for me in maintaining that definition.

Packing it on is probably a bit optimistic. The big "noob gains" don't come from people being in agressve calorie deficits for a year or more and shedding tons of weight. No ones gaining 15 pounds of lean mass in a deficit. 10 would be phenomenal and not what most would experience. I hear it all the time and I'm sure the genetically predisposed can get some amazing results but most normal people aren't going to grow much when the goal is fat loss.

Congrats, man! 100 pounds is my goal. I've lost 20 so far, feeling pretty great about it.

Depends on the amount of weight being lost. Dropping 100 pounds and gaining 10 pounds of muscle isn't that difficult. Now if you're trying to lose 15 pounds, no, you're not going to pack on size while cutting such a ridiculous amount.

Blasphemy!

It's pretty amazing the kind of progress I've made in the past 9 months. Where at the start of the year I was still using my 35s for overhead dumbell press, and I thought it was great when I went to 40s... And then by about February I was doing 4 sets of 10 reps of 80 which I thought was good progress, and that would be about all that my biceps could take for a few hours.... Just last night I did 5 sets of 40 reps of 80lbs... So where at the start of the year I would have been tuckered out after 2,800 lbs of total volume lifted up above my head, tonight I wasn't even tired after 16,000 lbs of total volume, I could have easily done more, and plan on doing so tonight. My weight has stayed steady at around 180, If I could look lean (10% bodyfat is my ideal goal) at 180, that would be awesome, but really I'm pretty happy with the size of my arms, just not the size of my gut, so maybe I'll just have to bite the bullet and start hardcore counting calories.
