Did you sign something saying it was company property, needs to be returned blah blah?

No, it was given to me after 3 months. The only thing I signed off on was my company phone, which whatever, I gave to them of course.

The thing is, I had every intention of giving it back, I told him I would and he said that was fine...and then everything went to shit after that. Either way, it's a good example on why not to become friends with people at work. Good acquaintances sure, friends? No.

Weird. I've never worked for a company that expected you to return anything unless it was explicitly detailed/marked as company property. Though I did once see a guy say 'fuck this' and rip off his company polo shirt, throw it on the floor and walk out to quit. *shrug*

The bag does have a company logo on it, that's as far as it goes though. I could order the exact one off the internal website for $160 as well.

I don't understand why some 160 dollar backpack is an issue for your boss. Who gives a fuck? Why in the world would they care? Are they going to pass it down to someone else?

Yes, the new hires only get recycled bags you have to EARN a new one by destroying it through too much OT!

Possible job interview later this week if I have a good week. Pretty close by relatively speaking for this part of the world, 30 minutes no traffic at all. Some of the work could possibly be done at home the rest part time or something.

On the other topic the only thing I have ever signed for is keys. I still have the key for one place I worked not too long ago, nobody even asked for it. The only thing I've heard anybody ask for besides a key is cell phone and credit card.

Well if the backpack is a Flextrek, he should prob give it back. Those aren't cheap.

Just got an email for a 6 month contract position with possible direct hire afterward at a huge, gobal engineering company in the area. No vacation or sick, anything over 40 is 1.5x. Seems like i should ask for a lot more than my current rate due to being hourly with little overhead. I think overall seeing how a company with thousands and thousands of employees functions would be good.

In a nutshell: dysfunctionally.

I'll admit I'm being quite biased because I've only worked at one large corporation(IBM), but you are probably right that it might be good to experience it first hand. The internal bureaucracy, politics, and bickering between business units(or even just departments trying not to be responsible for a problem) seemed inevitable due to size and didn't outweigh the benefits for me.

35 an hour. What a bunch of shitheads
How much do you make now? Would you be W2 or 1099? If you worked 50 a week and took 2 weeks off that'd be $96k/yr. If it's W2 then they still pay half your employment tax.

$36/hr with 3 weeks off and straight time over time as long as i'm billable and pretty much free health insurance.

I just think if they want to do a 6 month trial it's on them to compensate me so I'm not fucked in 6 months when some project wraps up.

Well I have to factor in that I'm incompetent and retarded but I appreciate your vote of confidence.
