Had my meeting with my boss. It ended up being at 1pm. Ten minutes before I get notice HR will be in on it.

I'm now laid off and unemployed.

I have interviews on both Wed. and Thur.

While that sucks at least he was cool enough to give you a heads up so could jump start finding a job. Most places aren't that nice.

Yeah, I'm glad I had a previous working relationship with my boss prior to working there, that saved me on this a bit.

Though he was a bit of a douche while I was on my way out. I pack all my office stuff into my work bag and hes watching me the whole time. I get my coat and he looks at me and says "I need your work bag"

Mind you, this was just after he told me I wont get a severance.

I just looked at him, re-positioned the bag on my shoulder and walked past him.

Anyway, hopefully my interviews go well this week and I'll only be out of work a week or so. Both places seem pretty interested.

Hawking an employee after laying them off is pretty standard practice
And there's good reasons for it. In most cases it's unnecessary, but there's the occasional loony tune that justifies it. A few years ago I had a project manager that was on his last warning for missing too much work for non-existent reasons ("my daughter isn't feeling well, I can't come in today." His daughter was 16!). Finally after he didn't show up for a week, I called him at home and told him he was terminated, and not to bother coming back. I'd have his personal items collected from his office and dropped off at home. So naturally the idiotcalls the police, who show up at my office not all that thrilled to be there, because I guess he was claiming we were stealing from him or something. Fuckwad shows up to triumphantly collect his personal effects (literally like 30 minutes after I talked to him, despite supposedly being so ill that he hadn't been able to get out of bed for the past week), probably hoping to make a big scene. I just old everyone to take a long lunch and had my safety guy stick around. Dumb fuck then proceeded over the next few weeks to contact other employees asking them to photocopy bids he'd worked on, send him his contact list, and so on. He'd then proceed to insult and berate them when they refused and told him to go away.

Oh sorry, forgot the best part. When he showed up with the cops, he brought his wife with him. WHY THE FUCK IS YOUR WIFE HERE? Dude was legitimately crazy, I think. Some weird shit going on with him and his family.

Just remember what recruiters are, they want to get as many people into jobs as possible for their own monetary gain. It's in their best interest to find good candidates, but some will absolutely blast out a million calls to load them up.

Either way, good luck!
Got my references back over to the guy this morning, and he said he should know more by end of Monday. Dude works fast. We shall see what happens! Thanks Noodlebro!

New job wants me on board asap, pretty much have sent me everything already to get on board, only bummer is its more of a corporate environment so I'll have to take a piss test and all that.

Hoping my current employer fires me when I turn in my 2 weeks so I can take a week off and get some ffxiv time in.

Congrats on that. I love when you have to go in to take a drug test either piss/blood or hair and they also give you a breathalyzer. Well who the fuck goes there drunk if you are known to drink on the job? It's a one time deal once a year, pretty sure everyone knows ahead of time and it's not like it stays in your system for a few weeks.

Never had a breathalyzer but being corporate if I crash a car (not likely but possible), they send you out to get drug tested. Granted I don't smoke weed, I just don't like being limited incase I feel like it. Workplace is taking muh freedoms.

I haven't smoked since I was like 22, but every once in awhile I wouldn't mind sitting on my back porch smoking a bowl. But I too work in corporate. It's worse because I live in MA.

While that sounds cool, I have three kids and my medical only runs to the end of November. They were nice enough to say they would process my last day on Monday instead of today.

Plus I need to work, having time off is cool but unless I'm rich and can REALLY do some cool stuff I've always wanted to do, I gotta keep busy.

I get tested to get a badge on every site I visit. Considering there are 100+ chemical plants and refineries in the 90 river miles between Baton Rouge and New Orleans it adds up. Thankfully they finally came out with an orginization that will get you cleared that is accepted at most.

I always look at the year end stats they publish. Around 50% of the "accidents" they have on site are someone who flunks the test immediatly following it. The only person I know that had an accident flunked his.

I think it's a lot better than it used to be. Coworker worked as a pipeline welder on the River Bend nuke plant in the early 80's and he said lots of guys did all kinds of shit at lunch and on the job while waiting for the 7th inspection on one item.

Cobra. I think you pay 105 or 110% of the cost, but that includes their portion as well as yours.

Depends on the shop for my work, if it's dealership affiliated, they usually drug test. Small independent ones never care and usually real relaxed on that. At my current job, if we are going to be staying late, we will usually send someone to grab a 12 pack and have a couple beers a piece while we work and casually talk about weed. I think the owner even went and bought some weed salve for his back pain not too long ago.
