Right now I'm working there because they offer all the overtime you want, because no one wants to work on my shift because we're so understaffed (catch 22.) The commute isn't too bad, and my overtime can be done remote usually.

I'm just kinda biding my time until I can land a full-time position at the university, I don't care if it's a research position, an IT position, or an office typist or something. Literally anything would be less bullshit than the mountain of crap my team has to deal with in this hellhole, and the pay and benefits can't possibly be worse.

Also, my coworkers are kinda cool. Since our shift is so understaffed, and so much shit gets dumped on us, we've kinda got that uh, I dunno,esprit de corps, that comes from surviving under a constant siege.

Eh, at least it's not food service, which is like half the people in this shitty state.

Food service probably makes more than you do after taxes(assuming min wage+tips) and it would up the chances of you getting laid. I'd say go food service.

This isn't about pity, on a weird level I sorta(?) like my job, just not in the 12-hour-shifts-60-hour-a-week doses I've been taking it in.

I really want to know what's reasonable pay and/or unreasonable scope of work for a level 1 position in the telecoms industry.

Also, trashing on Avaya is just fun.

Yeah, but my base pay is really low. I deleted the post with the 'job description' because this is a publicly googleable forum, but it's a giant pile of bullshit. People keep quitting my team because of the workload, and no one wants to work the shift because we're so understaffed.

If I had anything better to do with my time, I'd just walk out, but I don't.

I'm on the south west coast of Rhode Island. Fall River is about as far as Hartford. Groton is a lot closer than Fall River. Those IT jobs at EB and their subcontractors have better health benefits but don't really pay more.

Fall River is really shit right now for jobs anyway, I know people out there looking for work.

This doesn't make sense. You'd rather work overtime for similar pay than drive an hour commute for better pay? You'd probably make more with less time invested in work.

The overtime can all be done remote. My entire job could be done remote, but my company makes you work 40 hours in the smelly, windowless cubicle bunker just because they're assholes.

A 3 dollar pay increase and a longer commute doesn't seem worth the tradeoff.

The admin work like dispatching is only because I work night shift and weekends, so there isn't anyone else around to do those things. I have to do all of thatin addition tothe technical aspects of the job, which are at the analyst level.

I think you overestimate what jobs are available in the field right now.
