I bought an S brand new in 2020.
Then another one now that I have a 2nd driver in the house, it was a 2017 beautiful gold (copper?) S with a sunroof. 13k after the 4k tax rebate. But older than 2018 or so, the glue for the monitors goes bad and leaks, then your screens look like they have an old screen protector on them but still work.
Easy fix was to have Tesla do the $1500 computer / entertainment upgrade, they replace the screens for it, not a bad price. I've had zero issues with the car. Insurance cost IS a concern, oddly using the Tesla app to get Tesla insurance was 30% cheaper than my usual go to (Costco).
Don't dragstrip race everywhere and tires will be mostly fine, unless your alignment is off. Then the extra car weight really punishes you.
Nice this is very helpful, didn't know specifics about them or fixes, or insurance stuff. Was slightly more than casually looking at this one particular 2017 P100D but the dealership i think is bait and switching me, the price listed on cars.com/autotrader.com was 17k but when I actually looked into it that was including some sort of EV tax break so it was actually over 20k.
I didn't know you could get the tax rebate buying a used EV, that seems like such a fucking scam.
What really blows my mind is the discount on these new teslas. I get it, they are basically a really expensive cell phone, they have a fixed lifespan. Giant sealed battery compartment with a limited number of recharges, so the cost can fluctuate wildly based on mileage and you never know if you are buying from a retard who charged it to 100% every night in their garage and prematurely fucked the battery. It makes sense for the 2014-2017s, especially those pushing 100k miles or more, to be so cheap relatively speaking, people are getting rid of them before they need a battery replacement.
but these 2021-2023 Plaids, oh man, these are a fucking steal.
For example I bought a 2022 Lexus that was 57k new, tax tag title it came out to just over 60k which I paid cash for. Now the dealership has repeatedly called me and offered to buy it from me from 38-41k since its pristine and has very low miles, just hit my 15k mile servicing actually. Last offer I got a few months ago from them was 39k. So basically it retained about 64-65% of its value.
A 2022 Plaid cost 100k new, and their resale price is 60k, so just slightly less 60% value (probably due to the battery life thing) but now with the faggots crying over Elon you can get one for 40-42k.
I could literally sell my 2022 Lexus I paid 60k for and buy a 2022 Tesla S Plaid someone else paid 100k for.
