Anyone driven a Tesla Model X or know someone who has for a half-year or so? Wife and I are looking for a new car and are debating the base model (200 mile range). Did a test drive and it was quite nice...
Figured we'd do the lease for the first 2 years and then see what the landscape was like. Need a practical car for when our son is born in Jan.

Miller equipment. Not sure what the unit is.
Finished the plumbing today. Still need to build the shroud and bracket for the intake, and build a bracket to hold up the center part of the cold side IC pipes in the engine bay. They sag just a tad, but enough that a big bump would cause them to tag a pulley. Have an appointment at 8am tomorrow to have the exhaust built. If all goes well it might be running in another week. Also, still have some cleanup to do on all the fittings - everything is just in to get it running. The brackets on the IC came out nice. The BOV needs to get clocked the other way too.

High end luxury/sporty sedan and practical aren't really compatible goals. If you want practical, buy a couple year old Honda Accord. Or a Ford Escape or something. Put the extra 50,000 dollars in a college fund. Leasing and practical are not compatible either. You lease because you have a business and can write off the expense as a tax deduction and ease of calculation for tax purposes versus depreciation on owning a business property. If you're leading a 70,000 dollar car, your goal is "status symbol" "keeping up with the joneses" "enjoying the latest and greatest nerdy technology" ... But please don't do that if your concerns are "wise investment" or "practicality"

Shit looks good Madruk, however, I still do not undestand why you cannot remove this coupler the arrow is pointing at and just put a filter there. You might have to bend the pipe a little away from the intercooler but I don't see how that wouldn't work.

Because the MAF (on the intake) must be a minimum of 20 inches from the turbo inlet. Also, the inlet is 3 inches, the MAF is 4 inches. So I had 2 hurdles to overcome:
1. Place 20 inches of pipe between the MAF and the turbo (required for my setup, per Jim Wolf Technology, this is their turbo package for my motor/power/reliability requirements.).
2. Reduce 4'' to 3'' somewhere in the middle - per JWT, minimum of 10 inches of STRAIGHT 4'' off the MAF, and another STRAIGHT 9 inches of 3'' after reduction and before the turbo.
There is literally no other spot to put the intake. Trust me when I say we spent days on this. We included several other Z builders, including the master tech at our local Z shop that builds all their race Z's. This was the only spot to put it.

Yes, it's just to get things rolling. I have another n42 mani that will get cleaned up after we know where everything is being mounted, so I know what holes I can shave.

It blocks the very bottom right corner of the intercooler, less than probably 1% of the total surface area? I do need the bracket, it's holding the front grille. It also couldn't be clocked up any degree that would make sense because then the hood wouldn't close. I also have to put a shroud over the filter to prevent buffetting and water splashing up to it. Anywhere else and it would be pretty difficult to place that shroud.
I appreciate all the feedback and you guys lookin' out! I swear we have considered several options for the questionable things in this build. I've spent countless hours on the forums, on the phone and at the shops mapping every step of this build out. There are no two identical L28ET conversions done on an S30, and most of them are pretty haphazard. I've taken the best of every respectable, reliable build I have found that fit my power, reliability and budgetary requirements. For the record, in total I have invested nearly $20k on this, including the price of the car and the motor. My budget, with paint (car has yet to be painted, I bought it red) was $25k. I will strip and prep the car, and have some pals that run a body shop that will paint it for me. I expect to stay at the top end of my budget when all is said and done.
I overspent about 1k on the price of the car, but it really was the best I could find after months of searching (including flying up to norcal to look at some). I did however come up about 2k on the sale of my first 240 by pulling the 5-speed and reselling the car for more than I paid. So I was OK with the 1k premium on the cost of the current 260.

I'd just get a Lexus GS or IS instead. Similar luxury without the Tesla price tag/tax. The base model X ends up being an 85k SUV, and it's not even fast unless you get the pimped out one.
And you do not need an SUV for "practicality." I don't have any kind of SUV anymore and we do just fine, and I have 3 kids.

Antarius and Cad covered them extensively...AS YOUR VEHICLE CONSULTANT (ex), I would never recommend Tesla Model X or any Tesla model for safety and longevity issues. Although semi-autopilot is a very attractive option, it is still in its early stages and I would steer away from it for the safety of your kids.
Anything practical would be midsize and above or minivan for maximum practicality. Anyone who despises minivan should revalue their lives. Minivan is the best goddamn vehicle to come on the market and everyone with a family of 6 or more should own one.
I am assuming that you have money. Is it also correct to assume that you will not be a soccer dad who would be carrying tons of shit for their kids? If not, just go with mid-size sedan. For future and unknown circumstances, SUV of MIDSIZE AND ABOVE is highly recommend.

Most CPO have limited power train warranty added and some extra ding dong standard. Nothing comprehensive.
EDIT: I stand corrected. BMW/Audi offers two years extended limited warranty from the time of original warranty expires which charges specific deductible.
