Wheel of Time

Both shows are horrendously bad. I couldn't make it through season 1 of RoP and I did watch all of season 1 of this show. I didn't watch season 2 though so I don't know if I'm the best qualified to answer which is better. This show has more source material and that gets completely butchered on a fundamental level so if you care at all about the books you'll have a hard time getting past that. RoP has much less direct source material so there's less of that specifically, but it's real, real bad.

Same ridiculous dei hires but nothing as annoying as the fat black dwarf lady in rop. Neither show is watchable. Go watch Utred Ragnarson instead.

I don't know... I have watched all of Rings of Powah and Wheel of Time and, from what I remember, Season 1 of Wheel of Time was just as bad as Rings of Power. Season 2 of Wheel of Time was better than Rings of Power season 2, but not by all that much.

I would probably rate season 1 WoT between a 3 and a 4, whereas season 2 was around a 5.

Although I may be overcompensating for my bias, as I know/care nothing about Wheel of Time but the LOTR movies are in my top 10 of all time.

WoT is probably worse.

s1 of WoT is a trainwreck of "where did the money go?" reused sets. incompetent costuming. incompetent lighting, etc.

the main difference is WoT is retelling a specific story. one that it doesn't understand, and seems to actively hate. doesn't understand the world, magic system, etc. its all wrong. The main character, is not the main character... Constantly taking things from Rand, and giving them to random women.


Rings of power got worse over time. Lazier. and it started incorporating more world elements. and making shit up, doing it wrong. mithril, etc. but for the MOST part, since it wasn't based on an actual story, it could be forgiven. its not as damaging. but then as it got to similarils, mithril, gandalf, tom bombadil and breaking the world with its nonsense world building, it got worse. and they are closer to each other in being equally awful.

RoP can still largely be written off as a bad fanfiction. it doesn't effect Lord of the Rings. the same can't be said for WoT. WoT is the main story being butchered. and its the only mainstream version of it. the only version most people will see. and its actively ruining it.

I never read WoT nor have any idea what its about. So Id probably find it mildly entertaining. But Im a massive Tolkien fan so RoP just makes me beyond furious. Gonna give WoT a whirl with my wife.
