The Band is universally well respected among musicians. People here talking about it like they're some manufactured pop band don't know what they're talking about.

The Band is in the Rock and Roll hall of fame which means absolutely nothing. I know when Levon was on stuff they always introduced him as drummer and singer in the legendary group "the band". I guess I'm old. But no they were not some manufactured boy band or whatever. I think they all played multiple instruments. Levon sang, played drums, harmonica, mandolin. Think the rest did similar stuff.

If you ever heard Levon in interviews he was a pretty redneck guy from Arkansas. He was on TV some times on talk shows very late in his cancer.

That usually is the case with lots of songs - a newer band does a cover of the song and younger generations think the newer band wrote it.

It was pretty ubiquitous in the 90s to be sure. I used to have to suffer through all the girl cousins trying to sing it during holiday get togethers
If that had happened to me I might have gone on a familicide spree. Thankfully, I just got to enjoy the song in smaller doses. It really was well done. The Fugees were talented artists. Horrible people, but great musicians.

Fuck that song. Listen to the video. Listen around the .30 sec mark when she says ‘moon’. That’s the voice and talent that made her famous.
