Ohhh man, DINO RIKI!! That was the first game I ever owned (besides mario/duckhunt). Found it randomly while waiting on line to get on my bus and I could never beat it as a kid. Wasn't till like 6 years ago I cheesed it up with save states in an emu and finally gave Riki the satisfaction he deserves.

Thanks for the nostalgia bomb!
It might be the hardest game I've ever played.

I can barely keep my kart on the track in 200cc
I noticed it has a little blurb about breaking being essential when you select 200cc. They aren't kidding! I don't really like it. I can't remember ever using the brake in a Mario Kart game, as far back as the original SNES version. It just doesn't feel right.

I still have yet to gold in any cups but I didn't feel braking was necessary ... it felt like you just had to know the map really well and start your drift really, really early

-edit-

But I was playing as my #1 boy Shy Guy who is a primarily handling character

I almost exclusively go with Shy Guy, too. I've gotten a couple golds on 200cc, but I find that braking makes things a lot easier. You might be right about anticipating the sliding more, and I think that works on the stock tracks, but I feel like the Animal Crossing DLC tracks were designed with 200cc/braking in mind. Those are the ones that I find myself slamming into walls and flying off the edge more than I should unless I brake.

I still haven't had a chance to play the new 200cc mode but braking sounds disheartening. That is not the MK way.

I had better luck by just not laying on the gas instead of actively braking. I need more time with it though. But yeah having to feather the accelerator and brake and shit isn't fun or arcade which is what MK is all about.

No one uses the break online in 200cc mode, talking people with 8000-15000 rating - just basically non stop drifting.

Finally got around to playing 200cc. It's amazing. Completely different play style. You go so fast you don't even need a mushroom or other speed boost to make some shortcuts. Also, some of the jumps you can use for a boost screw you over because it doesn't leave you enough time to drift an upcoming corner. I managed to gold trophy (two star) the easiest one on my first attempt and got fourth on the next easiest one. Those are ones I could three star in my sleep before. It's gonna be fun learning these tracks over again.

Don't think anyone answered from before, but what rating does 150cc start online? And do you have to get gold on all cups to unlock 200cc?

What's with all the hype behind Splatoon? I wasn't able to play the demo, but from the videos and screenshots I've seen it doesn't appear to be all that fun. Am I missing something that makes it so "omgwtf amazeballs"?

Nintendo fans are kind of like Apple fans, they just get excited over anything Nintendo puts out.

They could make the same game for every console ,and totally get away with it. O wait... ;}

Also got a chance to try out Splatoon yesterday - I was a bit skeptical but the gameplay was amazingly fun. It was mostly just a server/network stress test for them, but I thought it was really smooth with no lag.

Big difference between using the same IP/characters and the game being the same.

Yeah, I don't get the hype of Splatoon. Think I'm gonna stay away from that one.

I've had Wind Waker HD on my hard drive since MK8 came out but I finally fired it up this weekend. This is a great looking HD game.
