Speaking of oversized pauldrons, literally the first set of shoulders I got in this game consisted of one uncovered shoulder with a gigantic fucking monster truck tire on the other one. I just looked at it and sighed.
If it was literally a monster truck tire that's pretty awesome actually.

Im intending to play a Medic. It was the first class I played and while much has changed about it I find the whole concept rather rewarding. That having been said I feel Im walking into a quagmire given the reported state of the class as of right before launch.

Closer this gets to release better I think it is going to do. Timing of release couldn't be better for them, TESO couldn't have failed in better ways to highlight what's good in it.

On Engineers they seem like the Hunter of Wildstar for me. Low skill, easy to do reasonable DPS vrs ESPer etc needing more skill but having more potential. (As an aside they are the only class outside Warrior to use heavy armour, with armor seeming to be more powerful here than in WoW - though they pay for it by moving at 70% while DPS'ing).

Most of us are going to play it even if we say we aren't because it's all there is until Christmas.

I am just the opposite, I'd take tera style combat all day over generic locked tab-target.
Almost everyone praises Tera for its combat so why did the game bomb? I was in the old FOH board guild and took off 2-3 weeks for family vacation and when I came back almost everyone was gone.

While the combat was enjoyable for me it was the absolute shallowness of everything else. Wildstar isn't perfect but they'retryingto put some story behind it as well as build a world. Tera was largely just packs of mobs or cool dungeons with the the most thinly masked grind I've seen in most of these games. I dig a little of of lore or story or motivation and don't always just click click click enter enter enter everything. The game world and story had lots of shiny and no depth imo.

The game was just the combat, there was almost no content after a very boring level grind. Toss on top of that a shitty gear enchant system with the gods of RNG fucking you over.

inb4 everyone here rolls on the PVE server and I can't gank you at your quest hub.
This game is all about PVE, why would you waste time on a PVP server? The PVP here is all instanced.

The only reason I always default to PVP servers is the misguided hope that maybe, just maybe, devs will at some point do something fun with world PVP. Now that never happens, but it's the .00000001% chance of missing out on that which makes me lean the way I do.

Obviously I'd rather follow the forum pals, so whatever.

I would of agreed with you the last time I played a quest treadmill game (Rift). However, these days if I'm doing the treadmill, I just want to be left alone. If I want to PVP in a game where level and gear give you a giant advantage, I'd rather queue up for it.

Sure, I would agree with you but you know what this game is bringing, or if you don't, it's easily researchable. If the devs of this game are focusing all their efforts into PVE. Outside of Warplots have you really heard them promoting that aspect of the game?

I mean, I'm not telling you how to play, but to me it's a waste of time. I'd rather play with a bunch of people I know and risk there may be a Tauren Mill thing going on. Maybe I'm just getting old.

What is the point of having PvP servers if there are no contested zones where factions can gank in the open world? Doesn't WS throw people into contested zones at around 25?

Yeah, they do. Those moon habitats are going to be a complete zerged up mess. Not in the good way. The habitats are fairly small with dense mob populations and the player respawn points are really close to each other. It's one of those PVP scenarios where no one can possibly win, just eventually enough people get bored to make it seem like someone did. The other zones will be less flagrant about it, but basically the same thing.

Masochistic.

Eh I feel like the PVP communities are inherrently better and more interested on PVP Servers, instanced or not. There's a higher liklihood that PVE servers will have ultracasuals on them that never give PVP the light of day. Making it harder to form premade groups and make reliable pvp connections on your server.

Maybe I'm wrong.

All you have to do is ask yourself, "Does this happen in WOW in any meaningful way?" I think the idea that PVP server have better players for both PVE and PVP content has gone out the window like 6 years ago.

You seem to want to play a game like this for the PVP and the PVP communities. That, in my opinion, is a mistake. PVP is secondary in this game imo.

My family situation has created the same mentality for me. With limited playtime, I already know my days of PVE raiding are over. Since I only have 30-60 minute chunks of available playtime, when I do play it's almost always solo. When I want to PVP, I like being able to queue up for it and get in a few matches before I have to log.

Vanilla/TBC WoW was my favorite MMO experience of all time primarily due to the PVE end game raiding. If this game comes even semi-close to replicating that I would enjoy it assuming I could devote the time necessary to raid. Since I won't be able to raid, what fun stuff is there to do for soloers?

Eh I know for a fact that in WoW there are certain servers with an extremely high density of skilled PVP'ers (Blackrock - BG9 - Tichondrius etc.) People even transferred to these servers seeking higher levels of pvp.

If Wildstar is shitting the bed in the PVP department, I'll likely not purchase it, I mean... is it?

This game has the same kind of content WOW/Rift have.
Crafting
Dungeons
Dungeons+ (Heroic/Veteran whatever you want to call them)
Raiding (20m 40m)
Adventures (more group content)
Battlegrounds/Warplots
Achievements

Then you have housing.

The thing with Wildstar is that they did a good job with creating systems around all that content that gives you different motivations for doing them other than getting that drop you wanted. Challenges, Scores, Leaderboards, Timed Events, changing daily quests/rewards/goals.

I think they even have a weekly contest (world wide?) for a specific achievement in a raid or dungeon that gives out rewards based on some kind of score/timing.

That's pretty much the big part of the game, the additional layers of system they put on the same kind of content you've always been doing. I've said this time and time again, if you can find a class you enjoy playing and enjoy the combat system in this game, then this game will have a ton of fun to offer you and your friends. It's really high quality stuff.
