Feck. My T440 I bought for 200 euro in 2012 served me well for 12 years. Old ass cpu doesn't support win 11, meh. Got a x280 for 180 euros just now, runs win 11. See you in 12 years when it doesn't support windows 14.

Well, it wouldn't be that way if windows 11 wasn't complete shit. Just started a new job - windows 10 on the old work computer, windows 11 on the new one, and I can't find a single fucking thing in a timely manner. For fucks sake, they moved the fucking shutdown button that's been in the same spot for 20 years.

My first thought with W11 was 'why'. Why do I need extra clicks to do what I normally can do with 1? Why do I need to click 'more options' to get the 7zip dialog to unzip multiple files to their own folders? WTF WHY?!!!!

Because they want to be your mommy. There is some voodoo to being buried behind that other layer or not. Notepad++ eg isn't. Winrar is on the upper level. Shit's weird.

Native support for reading additional archive file formats

As announced at the Build conference back in May, this build adds native support for reading additional archive file formats using the libarchive open-source project such as:

  • .tar
  • .tar.gz
  • .tar.bz2
  • .tar.zst
  • .tar.xz
  • .tgz
  • .tbz2
  • .tzst
  • .txz
  • .rar
  • .7z
  • And more!

Because they are hiding the old UI. Windows is like a patchwork of different UI elements now.

To get the most out of the newest AMD CPUs I'm pretty sure you need to. I doubt they're going to patch 10 with the updates for them.

Is there an alternate media creation tool or resource people use to do installs? I’ve tried to get the Microsoft version to work on my laptop and Desktop and it craps out on both. Pretty confident it isn’t my USB drive at fault as I’ve used it for plenty of other things without issue.

Was using whatever is available here:

Never had any problem with MS ones. Guessing it's your USB stick.

yea since win10, ms own boot creator has been solid, it has to be your thumbdrive

Think the main reason I was being stubborn about this usb drive is because I've recently used it for RetroPi and RaspPi images as well as some computer wipe bootable drive for a neighbor who wanted to erase an old work laptop.

SAMSUNG BAR Plus 3.1 USB Flash Drive, 128GB, 400MB/s, Rugged Metal Casing, Storage Expansion for Photos, Videos, Music, Files, MUF-128BE3/AM, Champagne Silver
i wanted the fast xfer speed thumbdrive (within reason) and i wanted a real company, not weird chineseium memory this was the best deal, it's so good that if you click on the 64gb, it costs more

i'm just gonna create 2 recovery drives w/ em and stoy them away, i have recovery drives, but you know, it's like those freebie drives you get at events

IDK cheap ones die all the time in my experience. Especially if they are subject to constant read/writes like my 3d printers like to do.
