45 minutes of Angry Joe showing new areas and a few things. They are just sort of fucking around in non-tryhard mode so if that tilts you likely best to not watch

Combat seems to be basically unchanged from TW2. Still looks clunky and stilted.

Fortunately, that's not why I play the series, but it would have been nice to see some evolution there.

Lots of videos popping up now. Will probably be from several areas as the youtubers were given 8 hours to play with few restrictions on recording.

Here is a bit more structured video, mentioning settings, graphics, and the likes.

That's a great video. Really stoked for this one. Just hope they do launch with SLI support - it says in the video they did not have it though it was unclear if that was just because they had not optimized for it yet or if they planned to launch without it.

These days I get a nervous tic when someone says in the first minute of a preview video: "They had not optimized the game for mouse and keyboard, and so I was basically told I had to use the controller..."

Probably an over-reaction, but it's like a recurring bad dream with each new multi-platform AAA release. Game looks great though, so automatic purchase anyway, lol.

Short video giving a window into the actual size of the map(s). And from the Angry Joe video we also know there is some content on the ocean parts not connected to land as well.

Well, if Dark Souls combat/gameplay is their standard (as was mentioned in one of the promotional videos/interviews), then they probably started with a 1:1 of the DS control scheme and adjusted as needed from there. If you haven't played Dark Souls, a controller is pretty much mandatory, even on PC, because the mouse + kb controls are soooo bad... I won't bore you with the reasons why. I bring it up because I also much prefer using a mouse + kb, but I didn't mind the controller at all with any of the Souls games and probably would have used the controller anyway just because it felt so natural.

So I watched this and one complaint. The tree pop in is fucking retarded levels of bad. In the first 30-45 seconds you can see trees just vanish in front of Geralt before he is even passed them, and all of a sudden when turning trees just appear 1 second after already looking in that direction.

What is with that? It's annoying. 22 seconds in is some very retarded pop in. A tree just materializes out of no where, along with a bush on the fence he is swinging at.

Obviously tied to view angles to avoid objects blocking the camera. At the 22 second mark, you can see the angle is pushed towards the fence, the bush pops away, then angle is adjusted again and bush + tree appears.

It might be that I will hate you now for making me notice it, as they seem to go a bit overboard with how fast, how long and how many of the objects they remove. Been too used to thinking of popups in the distance, there I didn't notice much of anything.

That said at 2:40 into this, there is a fighting sequence in a wooded area. Paying attention to it, you do notice some of the trees disappearing, but not in a sense that is noticeable at a level that is annoying. In combat, moving around, it seems fairly fluid. Though again at 7:15 - 7:16 the cluster of trees popping in and out as he moves close and away is hard not to notice.

My guess:
Marketing: "This damn game won't run at full detail on any of our systems."
Boss: "Then fucking buy a better system."
Marketing: "Ok, we need $2000 for a system."
Purchasing: "No. Fuck you."
Marketing: "It can't be done."
Boss: "Well why the fuck is it so damn slow."
Engineer: "We're releasing a new version in a week that actually attempts to not render things off screen."
Boss: "Well, can't you just release a new version over the weekend that helps their FPS."
Engineer: "No."
Boss: "I say you can."
Engineer: "No."
Boss: "Fucking do it."
Engineer: "Fine..... lol"

Yeah I hope that gets cleaned up in the launch version. That is pretty damn jarring.

And yeah Droigan, I am used to that as well. Keep it far away and render as I approach is a better effect than having things vanish or appear right in front of me. Especially that fence angle. That's in the player view the entire time and only when Geralt starts directly looking that way did the bush appear. That's pretty shitty and I hope it isn't reflective of the entire game.

Holy Shit. Check out Droigan's video at 12:37 and watch a tree just appear out of no where in the middle of a fight around the 12:40 mark.

In ArcheAge you can run through a housing area, and because of the immense amount of bullshit people put in their houses, the 'load in' delay for some of the objects can be very high, high enough so you're trying to cross this housing area and get stuck in a sheep pen that traps you with a bunch of sheep.

Haha that would be awesome.
