Finishing up Novigrad myself and I think my only real complaints are the terrible inventory UI and controls could be slightly tighter(though I got used to it). Playing on PS4. Really been enjoying the story/characters so far, especially that Baron story.

Ha it seems I'm an outlier on my opinion about the story... To each their own I suppose.

But I just attended a fucking masquerade ball. If I have to attend a masquerade ball in an RPG the game loses like 1,000,000 originality points.

The Baron was a very high point that made me want to keep playing, but I've clocked 20+ hours since then and nothing else has come even close.

I'm hoping Skellige has more to offer.

It was the worst. I've gotta say though, so far I enjoy DA:I more than W3. I mean obviously W3 is a technical marvel with a world of unparalleled detail and craftsmanship. The story is grittier and the acting is far superior....

Guess I'll wait until I finish it to pass my final judgement.

I liked the combat in DA:I more b/c its a bit faster paced? more sparkles? or perhaps its b/c it was closer to Dragons Dogma which gives me an e-boner.

I've had a bit to digest the ending and such.

I'll spoiler it

I got the witcher ending and I consider it to be the best one. I'm kind of glad it worked out that way because I don't think I'd want to play through all the way a second time. The game is excellent but its very linear and unlike the previous games I feel that 3 had by far the least shades of grey options. Everything felt pretty straight forward to me in game as to bad vs good outcome with the exception of a few side quests which have zero impact on the game or the story.

I do wish they would of done a better job with the previous games characters. The companion quests in game left me wanting. They felt rushed, incomplete and in many cases they sucked.

Seriously, getting 3 playing cards, was that the best they could come up with for Zoltan? Roach should of had far more than that one mission to go get Ves. So much potential there for interesting guerrilla warfare stuff to earn his help. Dandylion and his whores and then disappearing to be a good businessman seemed out of place. You think he could of been part of something a bit bigger than that at some point in the game.

Triss and Yennefer were almost non existent outside of their tiny portion of the story and most of that related to the main quest. Triss's part was over way too quickly and Yennefer was a complete and total cunt for 95% of the game. Once you get their very quick portions of the story done they are on complete auto pilot for the rest of the game. In fact you wouldn't' even know you would end up with Triss at the end (or whoever you pick) because she treats you like every other random towns person in game with a single word response if you try and talk to her. With the exception of the 2 or 3 dialogue options you can't even talk to these people. Just felt really odd sending my GF to the fortress, she isn't even there to talk to. Then after saying all the right things, she won't even talk to me. Then we say some more right things and its cool then she won't talk to me for the rest of the game until the end where we live happily ever after. Disjointed.

Why they decided to make Yennefer such a cunt is beyond my understanding. She isn't like that in the books and their portrayal of her was terrible.

They did a good job with Dikystra as a character, even if the assassination quests were pretty bad except for the final portion of the deed which was what? the second quest? The entire sequence felt rushed not fully fleshed out. They could of done a better job of fleshing out that line. I wish they would of explored the underworld a bit more and especially the Holy Fire church stuff. There was so much potential in Novigrad, crime bosses, oppressive radicals, all your friends meet up there, assassination etc and when I left there I felt as though I was an errand boy for 30 of the steps when 3 or 4 of them were actually interesting. I wish they would of picked one of those and stuck with it. Fully exploring it in depth and giving you some actual resolution with some consequences.

Novigrad was the weakest link in the game for me.

Then you get to Skeliage and the games pretty much redeems itself for the rest of the playtime. They did a great job with the island nation and more or less everything after that.

My biggest gripe with the game is how linear it is and how little outside the main quest there was. Sure there were Witcher contracts and some ? to explore. Few of them were actually interesting but most of that content was crap filler. My issue with all of that is regardless of what you're doing its pretty much all the same shit. Great story but how many fucking Drowners do I have to kill? Wraiths? Seriously how many times did the quests say "use your witcher sense to find a trail or red stuff"? Cool concept but then repeated 300 times it kind of loses its appeal. They could of used a bit more variation in what you were doing in these quests. They could of borrowed more from other games instead of taking their two trick bag and trying to reuse them over and over.

Now regardless of all that, the story was excellent. Ciri is an amazing character and I can't wait to see what they do with her in future games. Geralt is one of the best characters in video game history. This is still one of my favorite series and I'm satisfied with how they ended the game and Geralt's story. Should be interesting to see what they have for DLC down the road.

Despite that, still an excellent game. 9/10 for me. If the controls were not so frustrating at times and if the Novigrad area had been better or perhaps a slightly improved outside the main quest options it'd easily be a 10/10 game for me.

Is there a mod or cosnole command to turn off or at least lower exp? Started another round but going completionist (fuck I missed a lot the first time around) but out leveling shyte like crazy. Find it amusing that this time around I am level 12 with 5k gold coins while last time I barely had 1k.

Out of that shithole Novigrad and on to Skellige. Game is immediately awesome again. Thank god.

My only main gripe about the game so far are the quests where I have to read a random note/book in my inventory. If you pick up a book/note that is a significant part of a quest line, it should auto-open the moment you pick it up, then go into your inventory. I don't want to have to sort through 6 dozen notes in my damn inventory looking for it later, just for the sake of triggering the next leg of a quest.

If it's necessary for a quest, it should go to the quest items tab, if not, it should go into usable items tab, but it might be a bit wonky. New items have * next to them the first time you open the inventory atfer picking them up, so I just made sure to read all of those every time i went to the inventory.

Most of the time it's just random bitching pointing you to a hidden treasure despite containing no location data at all.

FFS, no patch again today. This is getting ridiculous.

There's an xp gain multiplier mod over at Nexus. I think you'll regret using it when you get to the end of the game and aren't able to equip masterwork gear at all and superior gear only towards the very end of the story. Better to just do as I suggested above and avoid any quest/content that is above your level. I'm doing everything in order of level even if it means a lot of extra traveling and I am only minimally overleveled.

Yeah that's pretty much what I have been doing though I have been going to all the question marks on the map. Kinda debating whether I should just stop and just wait for CDPR to fix the leveling curve as it is kinda broken.

Is it broken or is it that they expected you the move back to previous zones to do the harder content?

You go back to those zones and spend a lot of time there. So don't stress about doing all the stuff prior to skel. Its also really clear when things are about to get real. They will tell you there is no going back twice, the first time is for side quests related to the story and the second time its the real deal and its obvious.

Anyway you get like 40 xp or less for most of that content and you need a lot of xp to level later on so its not really a huge deal unless you go through and do literally everything in Velen before even advancing the story in Skel.

I think the leveling curve is fine as it is, if you aren't absolutely obsessed by doing everything at recommended level. The quest rewards scale to your level -3, but they are usually useless anyway if you are diligent about upgrading your witcher gear.

When I first got to Novigrad I was also feeling a bit slowed down but after an hour or two once I started seeing the dots coming together through multiple quests I REALLY enjoyed it. I honestly think they purposely slowed things down for pacing reasons. After the climax of the Baron they couldn't keep you up that high. There was only an hour or so where I was like meh. EG going to each girl on dandilions diary..

Literally just finished installing, tweaking the graphics (All Ultra, except no hair-works & foliage distance = high, rock solid 60 fps) and completed the tutorial and the first camp scene.

Damn, this game is beautiful. On top of that, the quality of the acting, music & voice work, expressions and pacing in the cut-scenes, have justblownme away.

I am staggered by just how good it is! Good times ahead.

I like Novigrad. It is a nice change from wild to ubran before you head to the final big ass isles.
Almost all good pacing follows a similar curve to this:
