Because people are walking around sick for lack of omega 3s? When the answer to the questions "what will happen if I take this" and "what will happen if I don't take this" are both "nothing" then just save your money.
Omega3 is linked to all kinds of long term health outcomes. The evidence for it now basically makes it retarded to NOT take a fish oil supplement

As for other vitamins, my policy is that vitamins are so cheap they might as well be free, and I don't always eat perfectly plus i exercise a lot, so why not. The possible gains are massively larger than costs

Wow that is really wrong. Iodine as conflicting? What the shit? Copper? Beta carotene? MAGNESIUM? Am I reading that wrong?

I think it's as a supplement. As in, if you're not living in Africa you don't need to supplement with things like essential minerals.

With how fortified american food is stuff like Vit B, C, and A is a waste of a pill for most people. Vitamin E is a waste of time for everyone who isn't on a purely liquid diet, and unless you're a shut-in living in the arctic circle you shouldn't need Vitamin D either.

It's, shockingly, a bad infograph. The evidence for the function of the vitamin B's are hardly "conflicting", what is conflicting is the usefulness of the supplement to the hypothetically average person with a hypothetically average american diet. But the chart directly contradicts that assumption in more than once place... so yeah.

Would be cool if a fitday or other diet tracking website allowed you to enter your diet for a week and produced a chart like that. Obviously some people need more vitamins than others and one week isn't enough to get a true average but it'd probably do okay.

I've tried taking multivitamins and fish oil several times and have never noticed a difference in how I felt after taking them for a few months. That's anecdotal and rife with inaccuracy but I'm not very disciplined so it's tough to keep it up without knowing if it's bullshit.

I take fish oil because I'm allergic to shellfish and living inland I don't trust regular fish either. Seems to be enough evidence to suggest it warrants the paltry investment.

When I first started taking fish oil, I noticed it helped me recover from lifting faster. It was probably the first supplement I've ever taken that I could legitimately notice a difference.

Next winter, I should probably start taking vitamin D.

Some of that stuff isn't cheap. Cod liver oil is like $34 and up for a small bottle.

I used to rip on probiotic yogurt since I assumed it was up there in the crazy department with acai berries. That is until an antibiotic I was on for pneumonia killed all my awesome gut bacteria.

Had to load up on yizorgurt to stop shitting my pants

I took fish oil for awhile, but hated burping up catfish bait all day. Krill oil doesn't taste as bad, and flax seed oil also has the Omega3's I think.
