Yeah, definitely good and bad fish oils out there. I should really be taking it but I stopped after I got a bad pill or something and literally got so sick I puked up fish-stank nastyness so badly I got it on my bathroom wall, and it stunk like nasty fish stank puke for months. One of those times you get so sick even thinking about it you can recall the nasty foulness that was spewing out your mouth. Ugh, feel sick just typing about it. That was the end of fish oil for me.

Lol, ya I once ate a full jar of marachino cherries once when I was a kid and it made me that special kind of sick. Still can't eat marachinos twenty five years later.

Kirkland (the Costco brand, but available at Amazon too) fish oil gel caps are some of the most highly rated around, and cheapest. I started taking them and a multivitamin this year because I'm 44, and I figured it couldn't hurt, particularly since my cholesterol is high and I eat almost zero seafood. I couldn't tell you if it has made a lick of difference, but nothing I've seen makes me think it is harmful, so at worst I'm pissing a few dollars a month away. I don't take any other supplements though, because I don't see a need.

I used to rip on probiotic yogurt since I assumed it was up there in the crazy department with acai berries. That is until an antibiotic I was on for pneumonia killed all my awesome gut bacteria.

Had to load up on yizorgurt to stop shitting my pants
I always wondered if they couldn't just do a poop transfusion.

Take Konsyl. It will lower your cholesterol. I almost have hypotriglyceridemia because of it, I'm sure. :| My total cholesterol is a staggering 140, lol.

edit: @Erronius, they are finding that fecal transplants can actually cure several gastrointestinal problems. Your GI bacteria, according to a study in mice, can cause you to be energetic and thin while the other was fat and lethargic. They are finding this bacteria to be very, very important.

Go to the nastiest outdoor latrine you can find in Africa, walk around in the shit barefooted so you can get some hookworms and let a little get in your mouth while your at it. Voila, you've cured and inoculated yourself against a large host of auto-immune and GI diseases. Your welcome.

I have to believe that Konsyl alone isn't responsible for your low cholesterol, you probably watch what you eat fairly well, or just have your youthful metabolism still perhaps.

I take 5g of fiber every morning in the form of sugar free gummy bears because they taste good and are therefore easy to take/remember. I realize it isn't the same kind of fiber and probably isn't as effective, but I'm not as worried about being precisely regular either. I would imagine that is slightly more important for you than it is for me?

In the interest of science, however, if I were to switch (because it is pretty damn cheap either way), are the capsules just as good as the powder? These, in particular:Amazon.com: Konsyl Psyllium Fiber, 100 Capsules: Health Personal CareAs noted above, I already take a vitamin and fish oil, so it isn't a big deal to take one or two of these as necessary either. I'm not a big fan of the powders though, mainly because I don't ever drink anything significant first thing in the morning to put it in.

Haha, it has to be healthy GI bacteria, not riddled with bad bacteria.

Konsyl and Metamucil have very low glycemic indexes and it is also used to treat high cholesterol, all the while staying regular.

Amazon.com: Konsyl Easy Mix 300 grams 6 Pack: Health Personal Care

I would recommend the Easy Mix solution or else you will be swallowing about 10 pills/day just to meet the same requirement as you do now.

Konsyl Easy Mix: Effective in relieving occasional constipation and restoring regularity. Use as a Fiber Supplement: An easy way to increase your daily fiber intake. Diets low in saturated fat and cholesterol that include 7 grams of soluble fiber per day from psyllium husk, as in Konsyl, may reduce the risk of Coronary Heart Disease (CHD) by lowering cholesterol. One adult dose of Konsyl Easy Mix provides 2 grams of this soluble fiber. Use as a Laxative: For relief of occasional constipation and to induce regularity, generally produces bowel movement in 12 to 72 hours.
