Well, to be fair, Amazons were always traditionally "men suck" going back thousands of years in myths. So the queen of the Amazons having that attitude is just sticking with the source material.

actually loved that they slipped in the original purpose of the amazons/wonder woman
they were fuck toys to keep men satiated and prevent them from going to war with one another.
The amazon's rebelled and escaped slavery and were given an island refuge to hide from the world on.

felt this was a /wink at the original wonder woman comic being somewhat voyeuristic BDSM

Just got back from it. Good movie. Could use some 1-2minute cuts on some scenes. The fight on the watchtower would have been a bit more poignant without the stupid pill. It's less problematic for the hero when the person you're trying to murder fights back.

I just got back from seeing this. I enjoyed it, like many said middle of the road compared to Marvel movies, good but not great.

I pretty much got what I expected. I loved Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, she nailed the action scenes, but she's jot a good actress and it showed anytime she opened her mouth. She delivered a few speeches here and there and they all fell flat to me, and it took some of the emotion out of the scenes and was distracting. She did well on some of the more lighter scenes. She god damn gorgeous though.

The action scenes were pretty cool for the most part, I like how she fights. Some of the cgi was kind of bad though and very noticeable when it switch from real Gal to cgi Gal.

Chris Pine did pretty well, and the rest of the group were interesting enough.

Fun movie. :)

Enjoyed this a bit more than GOTG2. Gal looks like a great Wonder Woman, and by the end she'd grown on me - but my fecking lord, she is a dogshit actress. Chris Pine was great though. Can't believe this was as good as it was, and the Batman Vs Superman shit has all been abhorrent, as was Suicide Squad.

Gal Gadot has a Natalie Portman influence to her I noticed.

Then I realized Natalie Portman is also out of Israel and the tribe. Some great genes over there I've been seeing a lot of migration on social media. Between them and Bar Paly,

WOW King Herod must have been a very busy man.

Yeah Room in Rome is like the best European movie ever made

Saw this and Pirates of the Carribean 5 today. Not bad, not fantastic. Mid tier comic book movie, 93% on RT is a bit insane this isn't Godfather or The Dark Knight. Boring ass villain, not much humor, far too much 300 bullet time action sequences that didn't look very good. A lot of flaws, covered up by a hugely charismatic Gal Gadot and Chris Pine owning their screen time. I read somewhere comparing Gal Gadot to 80s Schwarzenegger, and I agree if she can continue to string together some good movies. Similar to The Rock she exudes charm and grace and like Arnold can't really act or talk very well but ehh if she picks her roles right that won't matter.

I actually enjoyed Pirates 5 a bit more, way cooler action scenes and some fun treasure hunt stuff going on there, whereas in Wonder Woman I couldn't really tell you anything about the story other than Wonder Woman tours WW1 Europe and has a few fights. The backstory stuff was just so weird to me too, I am not familiar with the comics but

So... Wonder Woman is a Greek Goddess? Which means... Zeus was real, and the Greeks created mankind? So is she like 4,000 years old or what... I mean Thor I get, a planet where the Norse Gods hangout and have superpowers, Superman is understandable he comes from another planet too, but how the fuck do you explain Wonder Woman and any semblance of world history if Ares and WW are real Greek gods?

I was also really confused by her powers, it seems like she is immune to everything like Superman? I mean dudes were firing multiple machine guns at her while her shield was up, but it wasn't covering everything... she never was in any real danger at any point in the movie from anything it felt like, even the fight with Ares was just her getting punched, thrown 200 feet, getting up and shaking it off.

Just basing the villains around WW1 felt lame, like they aren't really that evil and WW2 and Nazi's will really throw her sympathy for humanity for a huge loop. I guess thats why she disappears for a while?

Her mother not taking 5 seconds to say "Oh, by the way, you're actually the daughter of Zeus and Ares is your brother and you'll have to kill him" was pretty fucking weird.

In the comics she has varying levels of invulnerability.. She generally doesn't like getting shot and tends to block everything with the shield or bracers.

Many of WWs stories she is never really in danger, similar to superman. Their stories are often moralistic tales "what heros are made of" kind of things. One of my favourites is superman vs the elite which was made into an excellent animated movie.

In the comics she is a demigod. The daughter of Zeus and Hippolyta that's a bit more of a recent development but she's been powered up in the comics in the last 30 or so years. In the movie it isn't entirely clear
if she's a demigod or full on Greek goddess
.

In the comics the Olympians exist and are called gods, but keep in mind so is Darkseid and he outclasses them.

Btw Ludendorf is a real life historical figure and he
didn't get stapled to a roof on an airfield control tower during the war either, DC cinematic universe doesn't follow real life world history just from the get go. But I wouldn't read to much into the creation myth her mother admitted they were just stories even in the movie.

Wonder Woman's origin doesn't make any real sense even for comic book stories. It's just a mythos. She comes from an island where they're all women, and she's the princess of the island, and they're all pretty badass amazon warriors but she's just a whole nother level. And they might be gods, or they might not be, and it might be the island of atlantis or it might not be.

So you really can't think about it like that. She's just a thing that stepped out of a legend. That's all.

Watched this last night. I really liked it except for the Aries part. I feel that Aries could have been a villain they nurtured and put in other WW films.

Great fun though.

I had this same thought during the movie, but I figure it's a mix of myth and truth (truth in terms of the movie universe). Wonder Woman, Ares, and the other Greek "gods" are just super powerful beings, similar to Kryptonians, etc., and the myth is that they created humanity. Maybe at some point in the movie universe's history they ruled over a subset of people and had those people convinced they created them (and thus were real gods) and that's where the story came from. It really doesn't matter, but I think it's easy to fit into the continuity of the movie universe.

Kind of like Stargate, where you had aliens posing as ancient gods with people worshipping them, and after they left/died they entered history as true gods.

We will probably find out a more definitive answer to that in Justice League or Aquaman's movie, since he wields the Trident of Poseidon
