That left a bad taste in my mouth. Props to Mexico, guys were friggin great, and no one expected them to even make it past group stage.

It's really hard to say. It clearly was a foul, and a foul in the box should always be a penalty, but referees everywhere have taking up this nasty habit of judging some fouls as not bad enough to justify a penalty, which is clearly not within the rules, so some players getting fouled have taken up the habit of flopping like they want an academy award when they think they just got hit in the box.

That results in these situations, Robben clearly got fouled, yet if he hadn't flopped, maybe there wouldn't have been a penalty, when there should have been. Especially after the referee didn't call a penalty on RVP earlier, I can understand why the players do this.

Marquez has only himself to blame, he can't go in like that on Robben. Robben did embellish it and its a horrible way to lose but Mexico needed to do better.

Mexico started to defend 1-0 30 minutes to the end and we all know what happens in football if you try to maintain a certain result

While it's horrible for Mexico to go from qualified, to over-time to eliminated in the span of 8 minutes, it's not exactly unfair. They have been very rarely dangerous after they scored the 1-0 and at the end of the game they were so tired and nervous they were unable to get out of their half cleanly.

Shame for Mexico, they did well I thought. That hit by Sneijder was hit with a heck of a lot of pace, great goal. Wonder if Greece will make a go of it in their game thinking Costa Rica isn't all that good.

That's not exactly true. A foul that results in a direct free kick always results in a penalty kick if it happens in the box, but a foul that results in an indirect free kick remains an indirect free kick in the box. True though that the last time I saw an indirect free kick in the box was when they recently introduced the rule that keepers can't take passes with their hands.

Well, I am mainly talking about hitting an opponent's players type fouls.
