What's the EPL version of the Chicago Cubs. Been losers for a century and always hopeful that it's gonna change but it's the same pathetic shit every year.

Considering the EPL has only been around since 1992, you really can't have a century of ineptitude, butBlackburn Roversis probably the closest you will get. Second place in 93/94 season. Champions in 94/95 season. And now playing in the Champions League (English AAA soccer if you will).

If you are looking for a team still in EPL only 4 teams have won the championship besides Blackburn and they are all still really good: Man U, Man City, Chelsea, and Arsenal. If you want an team that hasn't won the Championship but has been a "Steve Bartman foulball" away a few times, you can always checkout Liverpool.

Pretty sure Tottenham is the team he's after. Even when they finally make it into a champions league spot they don't get to have it due to the universe conspiring against them

No, no, no, Arsenal is not the place to be for the RR bandwagon. Do you want to be supporting a fag like this?

That isn't American is it? NO!

Instead you need to root for the all American aka Welsh team:

Meh, only partially true. Prem kept First Divisions history of winners and relegations, so if that's the case he can still go based on "historically shit team the last 100 years." If he's looking for more of a mid table team that hasn't won in a while, Toon (nickname for Newcastle, so Abefroman knows) last won in 1927. If he's going for a club that has a high chance to be relegated but has still won, West Brom last won in 1920. If he wants to go full on Cubs (ie will never win anything in my lifetime but won a couple times 100+ years ago) and doesn't care if they are in Prem or not then I say fuck it, go big and pick PNE. (won The Football League its first two years in existence in 1889-90, FA cup in 1889, and then FA Cup in 1938. Fuck all since then) But good luck finding League 1 games anywhere but vipbox or the sort.

Also might want to avoid saying Blackburn are in Champions League. Champions League and Championship are two entirely different things so we don't want to be confusing people looking to actually getting into the sport.

In the fact he's a total cunt and played for Arsenal? We could go back to Adebayor and the rest then as well.

Touche. In all seriousness, I think for the average American to really get into the Premier League (which is probably the most "accessible" league to start) I think United/City/Arsenal/Liverpool are the best choices as you will get high quality players in most positions from all 4 of those teams that year in year out are almost always in the title hunt and play decent soccer/football whatever you want to call it.

Personally I got way into soccer during WC 2002 so can relate to picking it up around this time and it quickly became my favorite sport to follow, though I am a dirty United fan. Like lots of Americans, I initially just picked a team that has a good record of winning and then just researched them and learned the history and loved the club so ended up being my team. If you like text based games, check outFootball Manager 2014(or wait for 15 around late October) as that will immerse you into the world quite a bit and help you learn who the players are as well as understand the competitions more. Top notch series of games. Though I recommend using someone elses tactics at least at the start cause holy shit its daunting at first for most people.

Google turns up three cases of referees killed during a match:
The above, USA.
Brazil soccer referee killed during match; his head displayed on stake midfield | Fox News, Brazil (also, holy shit).
Referee punched in face by teen player dies - CNN.com, USA.

I'm sure someone in the middle east has chopped a ref's head off at one time, but otherwise you have that shit locked down over in Americaland. Maybe you should dive more instead.
Come on, don't be dumb.

Heysel Stadium disaster - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Americans are pretty good at violence, but when it comes to soccer related violence, we can't hold a candle to Europe, Africa, or South America. There are tons of top 10 soccer violence lists you can google up. None of them happened in the US, or any other sports-related violence for that matter. The worst thing that ever happens here at a sporting event is a few punches get thrown and maybe a couple cars get turned over in the parking lot. I'm sure you can find thousands of refs that got punched, it's just this kid that was unlucky enough for the guy to die from one punch.

+1 for Football Manager. Game will make you rage and cry. Takes a while to get into it though.

Why do you always have to rain on the eurotrash's parade. Do they even have parades over there?

Heysel and Hillsborough, the Brits on here can try to deny it all they want but LFC basically defines how they are thought of in regards to soccer fans and why the premier league even exists. If you want to choose a team to support read up on LFC's history and where it is now, you can't make a better choice IMO.
