That dev was a huge theorycrafter on the old EJ forums, which makes the comments even more amazing.

Went to WoD with my level 10 furry and I hit 15 as we finished the intro quest. The speed at which you level is insane

That Magdalena guy seems upset he’s not in the inner circle anymore. The examples of dev mistreatment are mundane as fuck.

As fast as it is, I still would just like more legion invasion events. I leveled 1 of everything to 100 during that event on the server I was on because it was so easy and fast.

I think it's a lot out of context, but the gist of it is that the communication between devs and the theorycrafters has basically broken down. Which is an admission of guilt on Blizzards part, because a lot of those Elitist Jerks theorycrafters are now system designers for WoW, and can't design fun and balanced game systems if their life depended on it.

Blizzard basically fucked up hiring the elitist circlejerk, and now those guys are heaping systems upon systems on WoW to show everyone how great they are at system design, when no one really wanted these boring interlocking systems for player power and progression.

Finding the mistakes and issues with something someone else built, and building something from scratch are very different skillsets.

In my experience, there isn't a lot of overlap, think of authors vs editors for example.

That's a fair point, but at the current issue seems to be that the "authors" are too stubborn/arrogant to receive any feedback from their "editors". I'd even go so far that we don't even know if said "authors" have the presumed skillset, as they themselves were recruited from the pool of "editors."

There is an interview Ghostcrawler gave way after he left Blizzard, where he compared the attitude Riot has regarding their players, and the attitude Blizzard has: "At Blizzard we (the developers) were the rockstars":

I actually like the systems for the most part, it's the endless chores that go along with them that fucking suck.

Current wow is the logical conclusion of hiring faggot power build munchkins to design a game. These people are universally hated in DND tabletop for a reason.

You take those fags and have them design a DND campaign it would be the same shit. A campaign you can't get through unless you do a million stupid ass things to show your "skill" rather than your dedication to the campaign, ability to roll dice, and have a good time.

Okay, so you like:
  • class systems, sometimes with multiple resource systems
  • gear systems (mostly via secondary stats, this was previously together with tier sets)
  • stacked on top: azerite traits, which are basically RNG procs stacked on top of RNG
    • you had to unlock those with chores
  • stacked on top: essences
    • you get these from content you sometimes do not enjoy, like PvP
  • stacked on top: corruption, which are RNG to the next level
    • you can get these with ... more chores (visions)
Can you see a pattern here? Most of the systems stacked on top of traditional MMO power progression are directly linked to the chores. It's designed that way to boost "key performance indicators" for the bean counters.

Besdes Ion, who else is from EJ?

And just take a step back to MMORPG, RPG and DND in general. The core of the MMO is simply DND scaled to online masses. That is the heart. Why has DND not really changed since its original creation? I mean, the details change but the core game doesn't.

Everyday average DND/MMORPG player?
  • You like being immersed in a fantastic world.
  • You like going on adventures.
  • Character progression makes you feel like you are making progress and becoming more important in the world you're playing in.
  • Be social, you meet people and go on adventures together.
  • You learn about fantastic dungeons and miraculous items you can hunt for and complete your character.
  • AKA rolling dice and having fun.
  • Some challenge is good because it enhances the above.
Things faggot munchkins do?
  • Statistically run all the numbers looking for every advantage and pushing element of the game.
  • Hunt for certain items that have unplanned interactions that can be exploited by certain classes or situations for an overwhelming advantage.
  • Use these advantages to grief other players.
  • Be faggots about getting certain items that were not designed or meant for your class explicitly to abuse said interaction and be a total asshole about getting it over intended classes. QQing about it if you don't.
  • Derail an entire group with your incessant faggotry revolving around this shit that makes everyone hate you.
  • Epeen all that shit like assholes.
Now, you can certainly do all the munchkin shit and plenty of people here have done so in EQ. But also, unless you so utterly lack introspection that you can't understand that that is not the normal player experience. Yet look at how much running sims and stats just to understand what is an upgrade is part of the base game.

You could do all kinds of shit to push the meta and explore the higher complexities of the game in EQ that is far off the beaten path. That exists for you to do. EQ example would be vanilla solo fear farming which I only heard rumors of Necros doing back in 2000 or whatever. But now it's commonplace in the progression servers. Or that dude in WOW who solos raid encounters during current raid tier by pushing the game to the limits. Or that level 51 monk soloing Nagafen back in the day. Shit like that.

At that time you're just playing a completely different game than 99% of the player base and that's cool. Do what you want.

You don't require that shit, or at least some level of it, just to be mediocre at the game because most people don't want to do that shit.

I don't have a problem with people min-maxing, especially for the higher end raid stuff. Frankly if we're boiling it all down to the normal dnd experience, random Johnny in an MMO shouldn't be clearing every raid as part of current content, either.
