Wow, this game can be overwhelming. Pet battles, Factions, Quests to finish and I have only hit a couple of areas for Archeology. I hit 90th and now I am starting the game. For a new person coming back before the next expansion, what is the best way to gear up? I do not expect to ever walk into the latest Heroic raid dungeon but I would like to gear up some. The Island with the coins appears to drop random 486(I think) gear off the mobs. I play an Enhance Shaman and I am still using my last expansion weapons at 90th. The AH actually does not have much in the way of weapon upgrades save for weapons that appear to have 3 levels? They are a bit expensive though.
-Install this addon:HandyNotes_TimelessIsleChests - Map Minimap - World of Warcraft Addons - Curse
Get all the chests from Timeless Isle that you can.
-Use LFR to start going through the raids. You have to clear the early ones to do the later ones.
-On patch day, go to the old raid window (default key "O" I think?), switch to raids tab, and "list my name" for the Celestials. Do that every Tuesday.
-Go to the Shado-Pan faction vendors and buy some gear with Valor points (http://www.wowhead.com/npc=70346). Running Throne of Thunder wings will give you more rep with them, but they have lots of gear at only Friendly now
-Go to the PVP icon on the wall in Townlong Steppes, and buy some PVP gear with Honor if you have a few pieces you aren't having luck with. That should be enough to boost your iLevel to get you into SoO. You can grind out Honor in BGs, and/or convert your JP to Honor at the Shado-Pan vendors.

That's the main stuff - if you play heavy one weekend, you'll be in SoO LFR. It's not too tough to get enough gear quickly for it. Here's some other things you can do:

-Run the "Arena of Annihilation" scenario - I think it always drops a weapon or something?
-Get the quest in your faction hub in the Vale to run a heroic scenario. It rewards a nice piece of gear. If you can't find someone in your guild/server, install oQueue (SolidICE) and try searching there

I gave into the urge and resubbed for a bit. I have not played since cata holy fark I spent about an hour just trying to figure out how the hell to play the game again. Lots of changes to my shaman and then messing around with the pet battles and some other stuff. As for gearing up my friend is doing that island with the coins and it seems to at least be decent entry level raiding gear at a glance.

@ Bruman,

Thank you for the post. I need to find Shock and Awe as well. Miss the warning when I got to 5 stacks.

Yes step 1 at level 90 is run the arena of annihilation scenario for a free 450 weapon. I was still using it in SOO LFR on both my hunter and rogue, heh.

I did get a partial SoO normal on my hunter. Group died off at Thok, I scored 0 loot, and I couldn't get an invite for the rest of the bosses even at 560 ilvl. Meh. Outdamaging people who have warforged weapons is fun validation though.

Everything being flex in 6.0 is going to be so nice.

Are reputations account wide yet?
No, and I don't think they've ever talked about doing that either.

However, MoP reputations at least, once you're revered you can buy a commendation that doubles rep gain, and it's account wide. So at least the grind on other toons won't be as much.

Rep has always been a sticking point for me. I put in a lot of work into rep gains back during Vanilla and TBC on my shaman but when DKs came out, i switched characters. The fact that my hard work is not available on my DK (and other alts) annoys me to no end. Yes i know i am probably retarded but its an issue and it (and just general boredom) has kept me from playing since middle of Cata. So eat a dick Blizzard.

Apparently I do not qualify yet for the Arena. It is currently locked out.

I feel the exact same. & I know it's a stupid thing to complain about but I have always loved rep grinding. I think my druid is up to 38 or so exalted reps and it bums me out that I can't keep that rep going on another character. There's a few that I know I'm never going to get exalted again because I'd rather stab my dick off.

double post... I should add that the dread waste boa's are useable at 86. Nice for alts when the normal looms stop working.

Unless you are an achievement completionist, is there a really good reason to spend a lot of time doing the pet battles?
Eh, you could quickly make that same argument about almost everything in WoW. Some people enjoy the battle pet system just in itself, some people just love all the new pets you can capture with it. But to the root of what I think you were trying to ask - no, there's no PVE progression related to pets (that I'm aware of), and they said WoD isn't going to up the pet level cap.

Personally I found the system "meh", so I haven't paid it much attention yet. I want to though, because I do enjoy collecting pets. Had around 150 in Cata.

On the plus side, one of the main rewards for exalted reps is usually pets/mounts, and at least those are account wide now. But if you want to open your rep tab and see all green bars, yeah, you're fucked

Not all mounts are account wide (or at least, some require extra flagging to be used even if they are account wide).

Well, finally for sure gave in and am installing right now.
I'd imagine I'm going to be solo playing for the most part, I'm thinking of rolling hunter but not sure, I don't really want to touch my druid until the xpac tbh. This is gonna be weird though because I haven't played anything other than resto druid since launch lol

Actually, the time isle has a vendor that sells 489 weapons at 10,000 coins each. I am at 5k now.

Yes my question was from a PVE progression perspective. I'm just looking to get my newb up to 60 so I can convert him to 90 then start working on the legendary cloak quest before WoD comes out. The pet battles just look like a mini-game you do when you don't have anything else to do.

His point is that the whole game is a sequence of mini-games that you do when you don't have anything else to do; it all depends upon what type of progression you want. Pick the ones that are fun for you and ignore the others.
