Ridiculousness was the blueprint for dumbass reaction videos and low effort duets. Probably the lowest effort form of media there is.

Also wtf that show is still going?

Rob always says he is done, then MTV drives a truck full of money to his house, and he resigns.

How much money can MTV have now. Channel has been dying for a decade.
I think they pretty much lived on cable subscription money and advertising dollars. Not like their shows are expensive to run. Ridiculousness has to be cheap as fuck since they don't play for clips to run. Also all their shows are like reality TV crap.

why dont they go back to playing videos 24/7? this way music can be fun again.
Are there enough bands even making videos anymore? Especially in the Youtube age, when you can watch any video any time, instead of waiting hours to catch what you want.

more than there were before MTV became a thing. if you build the medium and highhlight what videos are out there. then people will make videos to get their songs played too. thats how MTV became a thing.

because Youtube has a bullshit algorithim system that only highlights certain things while say an MTV will use a more fan favorited song. lets use spotify as an example. top 100 songs on there, you play their videos for that week. if they dont have a video then they will make one if they want airplay. the next week that list may change due to the top list on Spotify.

Youtube doesnt play videos based on hard numbers, just on certain metrics. the rich men north of richmond wont get any love, but it may be a huge hit on MTV based on Spotify.
MTV also had Veejays and music based news with interviews. MTV was an incredible thing until shit like the Real World came along.

Once again. The days of sitting in front of a TV to watch MTV til that video you want to see shows up are gone. It is not like when we were young and we'd stay up late to watch Headbangers Ball. Even then you could watch for 2 hours and maybe see 3 videos you cared about. Or.. You could go to one of the streaming platforms, search your band, and enjoy.

a lot of people still watch cable. people our age will still sub to it. its much less now than it used to be, but its still a legit medium for people and they will watch videos. when we had parties, we used to have MTV running on the TV , sometimes with the sound off while we had the radio going. i dunno. its not the golden days of TV, but it could be as good if not much better than the shit they are churning out now and there would be less employees to pay if all you're doing is playing videos that are already popular with a few Veejays presenting them or talking about the band and where they are touring. there is money to be made there if streamlined properly.

If this were true, then one of the many music video channels would still be doing it.

whats not true? people still have cable. the cable companies havent gone under. those reality shows are still going and they cost much more than running 10 videos in an hour that were already produced by somebody else. there is no risk involved in this. the reason why this isnt happening is because nobody rocks the boat anymore. we had a UHF channel in this area back in the 80s called U68 and all they did was run music videos 24/7. it was totally free on a broadcast channel, had no overhead, they just played the shit that was popular at the time and they were able to do this for almost ten years.
