So, doing zero. So far it’s fun, story is okay. Bit annoyed by all the fighting combos, and then fu use a bat in c3. Don’t really want to learn too many combos, also play SC VI. I like the speedy style in c2 on the first char.
Mmm, so what happens to all the substories if I don’t get them in the chapter they become available. Can I get them later? I’m told some of them gives access to recruitable chars later, business advisors or something. And the mini games, fml. Trying to do mahjong atm, somehow never played it in my life. No gf so far, no idea how romance works in zero.
God, I should be reading something work related instead, but so far suckered in.
Oh, and when do you guys beat the robber / big guy wandering? He one-shots me in both c2 and 3.
I just avoided the big robber guy and reset if he stole my money.
To follow up on my earlier post, I've now beaten the entire Yakuza series so I can add a bit more.
-The best order to play the series is definitely Y0-YK1-YK2-Y3-Y4-Y5-Y6, without a doubt. None of them are what I would consider particularly skippable, all are worthwhile.
-It might be a little jarring going from YK2 to Y3 since Kiwami 2 has by far the best visuals of the first five. From what I can tell YK2 is made with the Y6 engine, which is far superior to the engine the others used. YK2 was also the last one they made so it makes sense.
-I would rank them Y0>YK2>LAD>Y6>Y5>Y4>Y3>YK1 but that's just me. Y1 is dated and Y3/4 get pretty redundant. Y1 feels like the "worst" but it's worth playing for the story and also because it's quick. YK2 is objectively probably the best one, but I give 0 the edge over it because you play as two characters instead of the usual one, and the second character is AWESOME. 4 and 5 also have multiple characters but I didn't find them as interesting for the most part as the new character in 0.
-Y:Like A Dragon is basically its own self-contained thing and can be played independently of the rest. Doesn't fit in anywhere with the series really. It's an RPG, completely different from the beat-em-up style of the others. Worth playing if you like the newer Personas and the South Park RPGs, as it feels like a combination of the two. Just bear in mind that it takes about half as long as the rest of the series combined. Wouldn't start with it.
-Rough timeframe of how long it took me to beat all of them... Did the main quest and some sidequests, nowhere near completion on any which takes a lot longer: Y0 22 hrs, Y1 12 hrs, Y2 15 hrs, Y3 12 hrs, Y4 10 hrs, Y5 30 hrs, Y6 10 hrs, LAD 55 hrs. LAD is obviously the longest by a large margin, but Y5 is also pretty beefy so don't start it right after Y4 unless you want to run into burnout midway through.
-I can't emphasize enough that it's a bad idea to marathon this series. You WILL get burned out. I started getting burned out during YK2, and it's debatably the best game in the series. If you don't get burned out by then, you'll definitely get burned out in the fairly mundane Y3. Like I mentioned in an earlier post, I enjoyed the series a lot more when I was taking a couple months break between games. I rocketed through 0 and 1, took a break for a month, played 2, took a break for another month, played 3 and 4 rapid-fire, took a break for about five months, played 5, took a break for a month, played 6. I never got TOO burned out except maybe towards the end of 4. This is absolutely not a series to marathon, in any case. It took me nearly a whole year to play through them all (Nov 2019 to Aug 2020).
