I'm 53 and retired. My sister and her husband are now retired. A girl I dated in high school I recently found out is retired. Like a light switch everyone got old at the same time.
Wait ‘til one of you dies, God forbid.

I hit a new plateau of old today...

I started mentally keeping the tally of exactly how many people in my bloodline who were older than me are still alive. And I don't have to get off one hand to count them all.

went to optometrist about a month ago, he spent a good 30 mins explaining everything bad that is going to happen.
"Ptosis is a condition in which the eyelids droop. This can make it hard to see properly in some cases. Ptosis is caused by a weakened muscle in the upper eyelid."
did not realize it, but he pointed out that i wrinkle my forehead whenever i focus on something to lift my eyelids.
he said few more years won't be able to get around it.
seeing stuff like these was what made me go

"Ocular migraine involves attacks of visual disturbances that affect one eye and migraine headaches. The visual issues are temporary. Treatment involves avoiding triggers with lifestyle changes and medication"
don't know what triggers it and not happened in a while, so hopefully it will stay gone.

That ocular migraine stuff usually triggers for me when I have not slept well for a few nights in a row, and have persistent neck and shoulder pain that won't go away.

Got a while for that one, and trying to take precautions to push it back.

However, this weekend I was out with the kids and we were looking up close at a flower.... realized it couldn't get it into focus at the distance I used to. Time for glasses I guess.

Made a will this week
I added the legal assistance option to my benefits this year so the wife and I could get all our paperwork in order in case some shitty accident happens to the both of us.

Yeah, morbid days when thinking of the "I need to write up a small book to make sure my wife knows everything she needs to in case I don't wake up one of these mornings..."

You want to do that , and now if you haven't. I found myself almost exactly a year ago , in a CT machine trying to tell my wife how to get in our savings / my 401K in case I didn't survive whatever was in my head. It was NOT cool. This is actually triggering me a bit.

Two work colleagues my age had heart attacks recently, and a friend had a heart attack and died two weekends ago. I have handled my Dad's estate and others and have learned to appreciate well thought out and prepared documents and wishes. I'm going on a trip with my wife leaving my adult kids (living at home) got me to thinking I should have this stuff in order. Maybe its a Gen X thing but I have little hope for my kids having their shit together by the time they need to handle my affairs, so I am preparing some very detailed instructions on an encrypted drive, I just hope they can figure out how to unlock it lol.

been a running joke forever, but if you collect anything, firearms, tools, cars, books, fishing gear etc. write down what they are worth, even if it just, everything in the garage/shed is worth xxxx.

also sorta viral recently, but if you have game collections on steam, ea, consoles, etc, include that info too.

If you have the account creds what's stopping you have taking it over? It's not like the banks where they want to know as soon as someone passes so they can lock you out.

I have that 2nd one a bit! But I've never had a headache before (no brain no pain) so the best I could explain it to my, like, 22 year old Optometrist, was a floating frosted flake shaped clear piece. She said as we get old, the vitreous goes from gel to watery, and can detach. Well fuck. Probably a combination of the old thing and I don't drink nearly enough water. RIP
