To Elurin's point yes, most plays are only altering minor things, from a purely non QB perspective it would be much easier to remember...but then when you turn to the QB, he has to know all this stuff...say the RB is suppose to chip and then go to the second level on the left side....the QB sees a blitz showing from the left side...he now has to know will the RB be chipping the blitzer? will the blitzer come untouched? can the RB get out fast enough to where he can dump and be ok and get a big gain or what? Still tons of shit for the QB to process.

As far as the hit on Cruz, I do not think Reed should be fined. I understand why stuff gets called, even incidental (I equate it to if I wasn't paying attention and ran a red light, I didn't mean to but it still happened) but, I still don't like it. Funny thing is I heard Harrison talking recently about how he lowered his hitting point so he would stop getting fined and he brought up a good point. He said in general is that these hits come with the game, and whether I go up high and they get a concussion or I go low and I blow out some guys knee either way it could be a career ending injuring. Thought it was kind of interesting coming from someone who was fined so much for his hits.

The thing is, these guys are fucking monsters. Coming at each other full-force. Injuries are inevitable. That's why they get paid millions of dollars. Sure, stop the stuff that is completely blatant, fine for it, suspend, etc. The rest of it? Comes with the fucking territory. NFL players know exactly what they are signing up for.

Couldn't agree more. It would be like a cop being upset that people are shooting at them. Comes with the job.

Speaking of, have you heard this stupid shit they are tossing around about possibly removing kickoffs in the future?

They don't get paid millions of dollars because of high injury-risk, they get paid millions of dollars because of their talent. Which they can't utilize if they get injured. That's why the NFL wants to avoid these injuries, they don't want to pay millions to a player who gets knocked out of games.

How many passes have Wilson and Brees had knocked down, and how does that compare with the rest of the league?
Well Mark Sanchez at 6'2 had a whole bunch knocked down. He isn't as good of a QB as Brees and can adjust to being that short with arm strength talent and all that other stuff. A short QB can find ways to have less passes knocked down but will need to do something different than a QB that has more height.

That's Utnayan, not me.

But seriously, the height thing isn't as big of a deal as people make it out to be. Particularly in the current NFL where mobile quarterbacks are in vogue.

You guys don't seem to be familiar with the concept of passing lanes.
I've heard the term tossed around a lot and in general I think I understand what it means but if you have a professor level of understanding I'm willing to listen and learn.

Essentially they split the line in such a way or line them up in such a way where the QB has vision down the field.

With all these line-men being 6'6"+ and wearing helmets, all but the absolute tallest QB's cannot see over their linemen's heads anyways. QB height doesn't have anything to do with downfield vision and has more to do with the trajectory a shorter QB has to release the ball at to get it over the defensive linemens outreached arms. On a shorter QB this will result in more loft increasing the chance for an interception. However if the offensive line can create throwing lanes where the QB has throws between the linemen rather than over them, this point is mute. Or in Russell Wilson's case, if he can move in the pocket to find good throwing lanes he negates any disadvantage his height might give him.

I believe Sports Science did a breakdown on all of this but can't remember for sure. Short QB's might have to have a slightly different play style, but as Brees and Wilson have shown, different doesn't mean it is a disadvantage.

I wonder if the blindside OT is even more important for a guy like Wilson who will be using scrambling to not just buy time, but sometimes to just get the right throwing angle.

Basically what I'm saying is Pete Carroll needs to get Sandra Bullock to come yell at his linemen with a bad southern accent.
