Yes, I'd rather see the Chiefs have Kaepernick than Smith. Yep, all the 49'ers rejects end up in KC for some reason. (BTW, I can't believe Steve Deberg isn't an NFL quarterback coach somewhere, he was awesome at the play-action.) And yeah, Smith will probably get hurt.

I just don't see a better option than Smith out there for the Chiefs 'right now'. Should they draft a QB they see a potential leader in? Absolutely.
Yes. Every expert talks about drafting Geno risky. I don't see how this team is on 20 years without a play off win. They won 2 games. What are they risking? 2-14 again? Or get Smith and end up 7-9. It's risky not drafting Geno.

Even if Teo ran a 4.5 40 it'd be damned hard to forget how he was pushed around like a shopping cart against the most pro-like offensive linemen he ever saw in college. Just totally outclassed and manhandled. The guy looked like Ray Lewis in the Super Bowl...only he's not 37 or whatever and retiring out of a hall of fame career.
Yeah...but his girlfriend had just died lol.

Fucking Tavon Austin might have run too fast to drop to the Steelers. With Wallace gone, and him being someone who can actually do something other than run in a straight line.....ugh...it just makes way too much sense. I thought it was funny that Goodwin was an Olympian and Austin smoked him in the first 10 meters. Dude is easily the most electric player in the draft this year...led the NCAA in all purpose yards, almost set the record in a game vs Oklahoma this year (where he played freaking RB for the first time since high school and ran for like 340..ended up with like 570 yards or some shit).

This video gives me a boner.

Yeah, that highlight reel is very impressive. Too good for the Steelers. It's time for them to be perennial third place contenders.

I laughed because its so obvious and true. Is there even a decent QB prospect in 2014 draft class? If they pass on Geno right now, they might not see a decent QB in the draft for another 1-2 years. Getting Alex Smith would be the dumbest thing they could do.

The San Francisco 49ers have agreed to trade quarterback Alex Smith to the Kansas City Chiefs, a league source confirmed to ESPN.com's John Clayton.

Kansas City will trade its second-round pick in the 2013 draft -- the second selection (No. 34 overall) in the round -- as well as another conditional mid-round pick in 2014 to acquire Smith from San Francisco, a league source told ESPN.

As a result of the trade, the Chiefs are expected to release former starting quarterback Matt Cassel, league sources told ESPN.

At this point, Smith will play under terms of his remaining contract, which calls for a guaranteed base salary of $8.5 million in 2013. There has been no discussions between the Chiefs and Smith's representatives about negotiating a new contract.

The trade can't be officially completed until March 12 when the 2013 league year begins.

The trade agreement was first reported by Fox Sports.

Smith, the 2005 No. 1 overall draft pick, lost his starting job to Colin Kaepernick while sitting out with a concussion but was professional at every turn and continued to mentor his replacement.

Before his injury, Smith had completed 26 of his last 28 passes -- including going 18-of-19 for 232 yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions in a "Monday Night Football" win at Arizona on Oct. 29.

He then sustained a concussion in the second quarter of the 49ers' next game, a 24-24 tie against St. Louis on Nov. 11. Smith sat out the next game as Kaepernick dazzled in his debut as an NFL starter, beating the Bears handily at home on "Monday Night Football." Smith didn't start again last season.

The 28-year-old quarterback has thrown for 14,280 yards with 81 touchdowns and 63 interceptions in 80 career games.

Information from ESPN.com senior writer John Clayton, ESPN NFL Insiders Adam Schefter and Ed Werder and The Associated Press was used in this report.

Not only is it a 2nd round pick, but it's at the top of the 2nd. Absolutely ridiculous.

What 2nd string QB will they trade for next year?

The Bears gave up 2 first rounders and a 3rd for Cutler, and he's half the QB Alex Smith is. I've been saying it for a couple years; Smith is a much better qb than most of you are willing to give him credit for. Get him in a stable situation where he's not learning a new offense every year and he does well. The guy had a 70% completion and 8 yards/attempt this year when he got injured, and he's only 28.

I'm sure it doesn't sound like an exciting trade to most Chiefs fans, but I can't imagine a better situation for Smith than going to the Chiefs and Andy Reid.

"Half" is an exaggeration, but Smith has clearly been better than Cutler has since the Broncos traded him, and that's including Smith's Singletary/Jimmy Raye years.

One thing about Tavon is that he's only 5'8. Can he play outside the slot in the NFL?
Not really. But the NFL has evolved to where slot receivers like Welker, Harvin, etc can be game changers with how people are getting spread out now.
