The Bears gave up 2 first rounders and a 3rd for Cutler, and he's half the QB Alex Smith is. I've been saying it for a couple years; Smith is a much better qb than most of you are willing to give him credit for. Get him in a stable situation where he's not learning earning a new offense every year and he does well. The guy had a 70% completion and 8 yards/attempt this year when he got injured, and he's only 28.

I'm sure it doesn't sound like an exciting trade to most Chiefs fans, but I can't imagine a better situation for Smith than going to the Chiefs and Andy Reid.
Don't rustle Ara like that.

More and more teams are having to put real cover DB's instead of LB's on TE's these days, that takes some of the pressure off the slot guys and opens them up to more big plays.

I actually have no idea if that's true, but shit sounds legit, right?

How bad was this trade? Here is a sobering thought Chiefs fans, this decision was most likelyheavilyinfluenced by Andy Reid. Also of note, Smith will be coached by Andy Reid.

I don't see Reid moving away from his preferred offensive system. This means Smith will throw 40 times a game with a shoddy offensive line while his best weapon Charles gets 12 carries a game. He is going to get killed.

Also, I just wanted to make a fat joke.

The Chiefs main issues were O-line, QB and coach. They changed two of those in the offseason. If I was a Chiefs fan, I'd just be happy for such a massive change - especially with a coach as successful as Reid.

Why you trollin', bro?

Smith couldnt even take the 49ers (a team ridiculously loaded with talent on offense and defense) to a Superbowl, while some 2nd round rookie did it right off the bat. And there's really nothing amazing about Kaepernick. Have him start with the 20 other teams that arent ranked in top 10 and you'd be lucky to even get into the playoffs with him. It just shows how much Alex Smith sucked. The 49ers went to the Superbowl by starting anyone BUT Alex Smith at QB. Think the Chiefs will do better with Smith than Cassel? LOLOLOL. I'd take Cassel over Smith any day of the week.

Good point. Andy Reid is pretty awesome with QB's, but he heavily favors a 60/40 (or higher) pass to run ratio. That's not really playing to Smith's strengths as a game manager.

Chiefs will probably spend two picks on OL. If anything trade down for a 1st + 2nd so they can get them early. Then again, taking Joeckel or Fisher 1st overall isn't a bad idea either. Still think they could trade out of the top 5 and still get one of them though.

I think.

Edit: I'm not very excited about the draft picks they used for the trade, however. I guess it's all a crap-shoot, and we'll have to wait and see how things will work out.

I can't believe the Chiefs gave up the #34 overall pick for Alex Smith. I don't hate them getting him, but they were bidding against themselves to go that high. And then a conditional pick on top of that? I thought it would be a 3rd rounder for him, at best.

I would have rolled the dice on Barkley with that 2nd round pick before trading it for Smith.

I doubt Barkley is even worth a 2nd round pick.

USC QBs suck so hard.

There is no guarantee Barkley will be there in the 2nd round, this just makes it more likely he will be there in the 2nd round because you remove a team that might have drafted Smith #1. Bottom line is that Buffalo will take Smith if he is there at 8, if Arizona or a less likely scenario Oakland scoops him up before Buffalo then Buffalo will be forced to draft Barkley possibly trading down and then doing so later in the first. The earlier Smith goes the better for Barkley but Smith is not making it past pick #8 and if he goes before #8 then Barkley will be #8.

I'd use a 2nd on him. I haven't been a fan of any other recent USC QB...and when people were talking about him as a Top 10 pick if he came out last year, I was against that, but I think he's better than the poo platter of Trojan QBs that came out before him.
