Laurent Robinson cut form the Jags. Now THAT would be a good pickup in Miami, can get him cheap because he's still recovering from a concussion and would fit the slot nicely. Send Devon Bess packing and blow draft picks on a RB/CB
Miami is in negotiations with Dustin Keller. Word is trying to get a 3 year deal, at 3.5M per. Brandon Gibson was said to be visiting Miami today, but I guess is pushed off until tomorrow.

Araysar you gotta admit I nailed it last year when I said the Bears were frauds after they got hosed by Kap and the Niners monday night. They went on to lose like 7 more games or whatever it was and missed the playoffs. Perhaps Catler stopped giving fucks after that game? Or perhaps the problem was he started to give a fuck, and thats why they started losing? Maybe you actually need Cutler to be Catler, and not care. Otherwise he is not himself.

Still cant believe the Ravens are dumping all that salary. I know they have done well in past off-seasons, so maybe they got it all figured out, but they lost a key offensive weapon in Boldin (Flacco wont be able to just post up Boldin and get key 1st downs or redzone scores anymore. Smith is cool, but he isnt Boldin) they lost multiple key pieces on defense (Lewis, Ellerbe, Pollard, and probably Reed) as well as Matt Birk. The good thing for them is they will most likely have some key guys back from injury.

Niners are already a better team than last year and the draft hasnt even happened yet. Sucks we lost Goldson but fuck him and his big money contract he wants. He is a good player and they will miss him, but no reason we cant unearth a similar FS in the draft, or go after Reed with the extra cap space.

Sutekh , you just seem unhappy with Miami's moves . I can understand some frustration , being a life long Dolphin fan myself. That being said , you have to see some ray of hope. I mean , you have to give credit to Ireland and Philbin here . Sure Philbin didn't get Jennings like he wanted but he did get rid of most of the team who spoke out . Ireland needs to be praised for finally having some balls . Do I agree with some of these signings ? No , but hes doing what he thinks needs to be done to save his job . In the end , either he fails and we get a new GM or there is success that can be built around .

You mean the game where they played Jason Campbell? Real astute call there.

P.S. They went 3-3 to close the season after losing to the 49ers and still finished with a 10-6 record. Unfortunately they didnt make the playoffs because they were in a division with another 10-6 team and a 11-5 team. But I guess them's the breaks when you play in the toughest division in the NFL. Occasionally some clowns will call you "frauds" just because you finish the season 3-3.

No, they lost only 3 games, not 7.

As far as Cutler goes, perhaps its because he suffered a concussion in the game right before the Niners game, which is why Campbell started in the Niners game and Cutler was afraid that if he kept getting sacked while nursing a concussion, he'd end up dumber than Frank Gore by Week 17. Plus a bunch of other injuries that became apparent by 2nd half of the season (basically half the Chicago defense was injured)

They got a bunch of older overpaid players that they have finally squeezed the last drops of usefulness out of to win a super bowl and beyond that it was time to hold on to one piece to build around (Flacco) and jettison everyone else and rebuild with young guys in the draft. I cant help but to think that there was some collusion going on between the Harbaugh brothers and John let Jim have Boldin for nothing.

The real conspiracist in me wonders if Jim sandbagged the last Superbowl to let John win because that Ravens team was on its last legs and John's last chance to win and 49ers will remain a legitimate contender for at least a few more years giving Jim his chance to win too.

1) I called it over a month before that; anyone with two brain cells to rub together should have seen it coming from that lopsided schedule. (By contrast, Araysar was hip deep in "Best offense in the league!" wharrgarbl at that point.)

2) The Bears schedule turned the week before the 49ers game (vs. the Texans), unless you are trying to suggest Kaep's sheer magnificence demoralized the Bears into a tailspin.

3) Honestly, the Bears seem to be coming out the best in the division so far, addressing their needs, whereas the Lions lost people and picked up Reggie Bush, the Packers lost people and maybe will pick up Steven Jackson, and the Vikings lost people and maybe will pick up Greg Jennings.

As to Miami, they sure are trying to build the sort of offense you would expect Philbin to field. Yeah, they've overpaid for some guys, and Tannehill sure doesn't seem like the equal to Rodgers longterm, but I could realistically see them getting a wildcard this season.

Fuck what a crazy day was today, have we ever seen so many huge moves in a 24 hour period?
Uhh, it seems pretty damn standard to me, without even a ridiculous Haynesworth level contract to mock. (What would be closest? Mike Wallace probably? There's almost always one WR that gets too ridiculous a deal day one.)
Honestly, the biggest surprise seems to be Welker leaving. When your biggest surprise is the Patriots letting a guy walk one year too early, you don't have any surprises.

You called the Bears as frauds when they were 5-1 and averaging like 30 pts a game?

Do frauds still finish 10-6 in a division that still has another two 10+ win teams?

This brave new world of the $20M+ quarterback eating up so much of a team's cap is making free agency a lot more compelling, I'll say that. Baltimore dumped a lot of salary for Flacco...clearly Atlanta has Matt Ryan's deal in mind, and Rodgers, Cutler, and even Tony "Late Game" Romo have to get paid soon, too. Most all from playoff teams that will show up in September looking very different, and that's before the draft even happens.

The salary cap is definitely the crown jewels of the NFL...good for parity in the standings and keeps fans of habitual dumpster fires interested, you never know what pro bowl cap casualty could make his way to your team.

I dont know, Phil Emery isn't particularly sentimental about players and i dont think Cutler is guaranteed an extension.

He's got a new GM, new offensive coordinator/o-line coach, new head coach, new players on offense.

He's got Martellus Bennett, Brandon Marshall, Michael Bush, Matt Forte, Alshon Jeffery and presumably an o-line that will continue to be fixed in the draft. If he doesnt get into the playoffs, I dont think he gets an extension.

I'm so pissed about Welker still.

I may just roll randomly (/geek) to determine which team to support next year. Fuckin' Patriots.

I'm more in speculation than I am angry to be honest, I think Miami bit on the hype about Mike Wallace and I don't think he's going to live up to said hype. I don't mind letting Reggie go, that's fine with me. Letting Karlos Dansby AND Kevin Burnett go was a little questionable as well, it makes me wonder if there's something more going on. If you watched HardKnocks last year the two people that really tried to be 'leader's on the team were Dansby and Bush, coincidentally these are the two people that originally had issues with the team letting Chad Johnson go. I wonder if Philbin just didn't want them around anymore. Also with Reggie gone it kind of leaves a hole at running back, Daniel Thomas has done fucking nothing since being drafted and as old as he was, Reggie Bush was actually really good last year. Having an awesome receiving core is one thing but you can't just ignore the rest game, not unless you have Kurt Warner playing QB and this is 1999.

Either way I am hopeful for the new season coming up, I don't think Tannehill will ever be the passer that Dan Marino was, but if all our time is spent hoping to get another Dan Marino in the organization then we simply wont win anything.

You had to see this coming. The Pats don't pay anyone but Brady. Yet they still keep going to the playoffs.
Am I surprised by this? No. Did I see it coming? I really figured that Brady's restructuring would be in part based on keeping Welker around.

But yeah, probably won't matter. Still bugs me though.

If the Niners somehow get Revis and Reed now that Goldson is gone, that would be incredible.

They won't, but Woodson looks like a very good chance of happening (supposedly been at the facility all day trying to hammer out a deal), and they've got a shot at Nnamdi and Delmas.

You will be very disappointed a quarter of the way through the season if you have Nnamdi.
