The upside to Josh Freeman is that he is only 25, so he can basically be brought along like a rookie. If the Vikings are trying to develop a QB of the future they don't need to "rush" with Freeman. He also had some really good seasons in Tampa, so he has proven he can play at a high level.

The Vikings aren't good, they don't have good receivers and Freeman has had almost no time to transition. But they just got crushed by the Giants, who are one of the worst teams in football, and Freeman played awful against one of the worst defenses in football. Can he get back to playing at a high level? Maybe? But he isn't exactly in an ideal situation, I'm not even sure he is in a better situation than he was in at Tampa.

In conclusion: Who the fuck knows.

I would have yanked him for Matt, or Ponder since they are determined not to use Matt.

Cassell was the 3rd stringer so I'm pretty sure he couldn't play unless one of the two in front of him got injured.

This game was pretty awful. Theonlypositive from Freeman I saw is he's really good at buying time in the pocket. That's a skill Cassell isn't great at and Ponder doesn't have at all. Now the inability to throw screen passes and shit like that? Who knows. Freeman wasn't ever the most accurate QB dating back to college so I don't have high hopes for him turning into some awesome West Coast QB.

Still though. It's a zero risk move. Ponder fucking sucks bros. Don't kid yourselves. Freeman shows some potential over this season, they sign him cheapish and we get to spend our first rounder not reaching for a QB like we did with Christian. That isn't a bad scenario.

Rick Rielly is such a worthless faggot. He goes off on a rant about the quality of the NFL product, using this game as his example? What exactly did people expect from a MNF game that featured an 0-6 team and a 1-4 team?

Had Sportscenter on in the background, and I think Young was basically saying how shitty the NFL product has become. I think I said that 3-4 weeks ago. The NFL is going downhill quickly. I think a lot of us only watch because it's the only football there is (not including the semi-pro NCAA league).

Edit: Maybe it was whoever ^ is talking about. But either way, how can you consider this NFL season to be on par with a decade ago?

What fucking rose colored glasses are you wearing? How has the play decreased in the NFL? Is it the way better players? The way bigger pool of players? The way better offensive schemes? The way better defensive schemes? The advanced training techniques?

Nope shit has gone downhill because of free agency and two less hours of practice. Fuck off.

As a life long Chiefs fan, I've come to expect disappointment. I'm excited yet only cautiously optimistic.
Honest to God this was the extent of my conversation with a friend a couple weeks back:

Me: Think they'll make it through the postseason?
Friend: Fuck no.

One of my buddies was disappointed though because now we're having trouble finishing board games and the like, since people are more enthused about actually watching the game then they have been in years. At some point we'd started bringing over games to play instead of just watching the game and I don't think we really noticed until another friend commented"You may as well stop even trying to get a game of X in on Sundays because you'll never finish now that the Chiefs are doing good".

ThoughFINALLYthere is something to talk about other than Sporting KC. I don't mind soccer but God damned I got tired of having my ear chewed off about how good they are doing at any given time.

Is that what the record viewership and profits indicates to you? Haven't you been saying the same thing for several years now even though the NFL has been exploding in popularity?
Pretty sure he's a Redskins fan, so it's just going downhill quickly for him.

I used to love reading Rick Reilly's weekly article at the back of SI when I was in school. I don't know if he's changed over the years or if one page wasn't enough for him to come off as a condescending jerk-off, but I can't stand him now. I swore off his ESPN articles a couple years ago.

I can die a happy man if they win one Superbowl in my lifetime. I remember how angry my father was (he yelled at me for hours) after Lin Elliot missed 3 field goals in the '95 playoffs; I need resolution. I need closure...

My buddy almost got annihilated outside the bathroom for saying his name at the Ravens Playoff game a few years back. I just pretended I didn't know him and bought a beer.

I meant more the watering down of defense. There's obviously a large portion of the population that loves shootouts, but I'm not one of them. Part of that is all the rule changes. Not only are defensive players at a huge disadvantage (changes to pass interference, defenseless receivers, roughing the QB), but the league has added in so many rules that allow refs to swing games based on judgement calls.

Add to that what seems like a record amount of dysfunctional franchises, and I feel like the product on the field is shit this year. Yeah, the league is making more money than ever, but the game isn't as entertaining to me.

And yes, I'm a Redskins fan, but we've been shit for 20 years. Another bad season isn't going to sour me on the entire league.

Haven't you guys heard, the NFL sucks if there isn't a SuperBowl contending team on the East Coast. The Giants are dogshit and New England has all the markings of a team that gets bumped in the 1st round of the playoffs. Jets are bad, Philly is bad, Skins are bad.

Despite what ESPN and the media says, football is alive and well here in the midwest
