It's going to be glorious if the Seahawks bomb this season. They were fucking terrible on the road last year. Their only saving grace this year is a pretty soft schedule.

If it make you feel any better, I don't think the Bengals (or Falcons, for that matter) have any real chance.
I think the Bengals will win the AFC North. I think this will be the year the Bengals win a playoff game. But it will be against a team who barely made it there. Like the Dolphins.

Bengals could easily be the class of the AFC this year. If not they are still close to the top with Denver and New England. It is a ridiculously talented team top to bottom with solid to great coaching. I don't think a projection of a top 12 offense and top 5 defense is out of line.

That all said, predicting the Bengals might as well be tasseography. I would not be shocked if they flame out and end the year with like 5 wins then lose Green, Atkins, and Dalton in the off season then go 14 - 2 next year.

When you look at the AFC there's a pretty big gap between the wheat and the chaff. I think there's a good chance that last years playoff teams are this years play off teams, which were nearly the same as 2011.

What teams that weren't in last year could make it this year in the AFC? Steelers, Dolphins, or Chiefs?

I wouldn't even say the Steelers. I don't have faith in Ben's ability to stay healthy or their run game. Dolphins and Chiefs would be my picks.

The Dolphins schedule looks much worse than the Chiefs to me. I'd say 8-8 is likely for Miami even if they sweep the Bills and Jets.

Chiefs on the other hand I can see snaking 10 wins and getting a wild card. Of course I have them to win the division, but I admit it would help if Manning was crushed under the weight of all his endorsement money or some other freak accident like a Ngata pancaking.

I think that the love for both the Bengals and Falcons boils down to "Loss less from last year than everyone else."

49ers: Injuries. Seahawks: Injuries. Packers: Injuries. Redskins: Lucky to win division, will regress to mean. Vikings: Even AP can't stay that good this year; the rest of the team isn't AP.
Broncos: Injuries/suspensions. Ravens: Half the team left. Texans: Not good enough last year, no upgrades. Colts: Absurd luck/motivation; won't repeat. Patriots: Injuries/jail.

Personally, I hate those sorts of "Who lost the least?" comparisons.
A) Luck regresses to the mean. I would rather have my bad luck now and have time to adapt than in Week 7. (Admittedly, some teams will never get hit with bad luck this year.)
B) I would rather root for a strength than the perceived absence of weaknesses. E.g. There's a damn good chance that saying "The Patriots offense is in shambles!" will be regarded as rank stupidity in a month, yet I see a lot of people suggesting they aren't a contender, because, what, Belichick hasn't unveiled his pre-Gronk plans? Seriously?
