I wasn't trying to say the Charger's are better than San Francisco. I was simply saying that just because the 49ers eeked out a win against a middle of the road team it doesn't make them a lock for the Superbowl. I simply used the Chsrgers as a comparison because I think the Bengals are better than the Packers. Then a bunch of San Fran homers jumped in and did some herpin and derpin.

A 7 game winning streak that includes Seattle, Arizona and Green Bay does help their argument. And they really are a different team with Crabtree back and seemingly playing near top form. But no, I wouldn't call 49ers a lock by any stretch.

WTF are you talking about, pretty much every San Fran fan in this thread not going on an irrational crusade against Alex Smith basically said "yeah, we won but we won't beat anyone else with the way our offense is playing."

You could just read the last page or so instead of asking stupid questions.

The part I was curious about was who he was referring to saying that the 49ers are a Superbowl lock. There's been a lot of discussion this season about how dumb the 49er fans are in this thread but then most of the claims that people are mocking were never made by anyone as far as I can tell. Irrational haters like Chanur et al are mad about what they imagine people to be saying, not what is actually going on.

The "49ers are a lock for the Superbowl" was in reference to an article on ESPN.com that Grimmlok posted 1 page back.

Green Bay had a profoundly bad season (for us), but I would hardly call them the worst team in the playoffs or a middle of the road team, especially when Rodgers is under center. How about the Chargers with Dilfer like numbers from Rivers, or the Bungles allowing that shit to happen at home in the first place? How about KC pissing away a four TD lead after backing into the playoffs? NFC Least winning Eagles are better than the Packers were this season? Yeah GB had a shit season, but half of that was with backup QBs and it took them two weeks to find Flynn at whatever bar he was serving drinks at to even make that work. God, if McCarthy was not such a blatant idiot and our conditioning coaches were worth a shit, this team would be seriously in the hunt every year instead of just doing god's work of keeping the Bears out of the playoffs....

The 49ers defense is the real deal and that's what won that game, but lets be realistic here. They are not making it past Pete Carroll and his juiced up on PEDs defensive backfield (and hand picked officials) in Seattle. They probably won't even edge out Carolina. I give them credit for being in contention after that demoralizing SB loss last year, as lots of teams fold after a let down like that. Say what you want about Jim Harbaugh, the guy coaches a mentally tough football team. Packers coach is not mentally tough and that's why the game ended the way it did, despite everything else being in our favor.

Seattle has a lock for the NFC to the SB (as much as it pains me to admit it), but they will get blown out once they get there and don't have their own refs and crowd noise helping them out. I don't care if its Peyton or Brady doing it, but anytime Seattle has to play away from their own zebras and noisy shitbox they look mediocre, especially Wilson. Luckily, they had one of the softest road schedules in the NFL this year, so they pretty much get to coast to the SB at this point.

Outside of someone calling Kaep a lock for MVP, I haven't noticed them being any more homerish than any other team.

They do seem a lot like Seattle, just worse at everything

Well, the main difference to my mind is the head coach. Carroll is just plain dirty and has been forever. Not saying that the 9ers are completely clean, but there is a world of difference between the occasional chop block and your entire defensive backfield getting routinely suspended for juicing. No way in hell a HC does not know that this shit is going on (among other shady shit in Seattle) when it is happening at that scale. Harbaugh and him both play the refs as much as the game, though. And Harbaugh gets angry a little too easily and loses focus. But, yeah the makeup of the two teams is remarkable similar, which is not suprising as this sort of thing tends to happen when you have two or more contenders in the same division (see NFC North turning into a finesse division in the last decade).

Everyone in the NFL is juicing. I don't know why Seattle players keep getting caught though.

What's the average NFL salary these days? It's gotta be at least $200,000. You telling me you wouldn't juice in order to assure you keep your $200,000 job? Then you consider the guys making 7 figures, you're damn right they're going to do it. At that point you're using stuff that tests probably won't even detect. There's just too much money there to not. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if either the league or individual teams all have their own juice guys who are there to assure their guys get something undetectable or to make sure the players don't get hit with a positive. The NFL, as a corporation, thrives on these guys being massive.
