Why would you miss out on $30 mil to play another year of college for free? You wouldnt care where you got drafted too. And if an athlete is as good as they are they would welcome the spotlight of being first overall and someone to turn around a whole market.
Its not that simple.
You don't give up $30mm you defer it a year, You give up your LAST Year of contract $$ (if you ever make it that far)
Go to a shitty team, (like burrow) have your shit all fucked up (Like burrow) lose your starting job and bounce out of the league or take a $1mm job as a back up (like Turbiski ) due to bad situation year earlier)
Now that is giving up BIG CASH.
Best example is Andrew Luck, His shifty team broke him lol. How much cash did he give up by deciding not to put his body through this anymore?
He HAD to quit at 29. That's what 8 years of salary gone.? if you compare to Brees and Brady that's way more - Some say that was worth $450mm - and your worried about deferring $30mm 1 year?
