Why would you miss out on $30 mil to play another year of college for free? You wouldnt care where you got drafted too. And if an athlete is as good as they are they would welcome the spotlight of being first overall and someone to turn around a whole market.

Its not that simple.

You don't give up $30mm you defer it a year, You give up your LAST Year of contract $$ (if you ever make it that far)

Go to a shitty team, (like burrow) have your shit all fucked up (Like burrow) lose your starting job and bounce out of the league or take a $1mm job as a back up (like Turbiski ) due to bad situation year earlier)

Now that is giving up BIG CASH.

Best example is Andrew Luck, His shifty team broke him lol. How much cash did he give up by deciding not to put his body through this anymore?
He HAD to quit at 29. That's what 8 years of salary gone.? if you compare to Brees and Brady that's way more - Some say that was worth $450mm - and your worried about deferring $30mm 1 year?

and you get jack shit if you play another year for free and get hurt. That doesn't take into account the idea that you skipped out to not play for a team and how that move will fuck with you down the road.

The level of protection Burrow had at LSU absolutely dwarfs the "protection" he got as a Bengal

so you go to the shittiest team the next year, which could easily be the same shitty team that you hid from.

Luck made 100m and graduated Stanford as an architect. My gut tells me he hasnt pissed that 100m away on 87 cars and an entourage. I think he will be ok.

I don't remember if the Charges picked first again the year after Eli demanded a draft day trade or not. Same with Elway and the Colts

This is not a conversation about doing "OK" - Of course he is doing OK, - Does not change the fact being on a shit team shorten his earning power.

Its a conversation about deferring your draft 1 year to improve your over all career.

The best defense someone who is so wrong everyone knows it...pretend like you were manipulating everyone all along, and not just that you were stupid.

Plus the Texans are likely to be shit for awhile now.

The problem with deferring one year is its still a crap shoot who takes you the following year and you add on the risk of injury/poor play. If you come from money you can hedge the injury risk with a large insurance policy, but then you still have the chance you have an off year and that the team who takes you could actually be worse. Part of Luck's problem was he actually had character and played to win even to the detriment of his own body no matter the score. If he was a piece of shit like Jamarcus Russel he would have just mailed it in and saved his body until his contract expired and then tried to trade up.

The Colts are also not a team I would have predicted to ruin a QB's career the way they did with Luck. Peyton Manning had 227 consecutive starts until he missed 2011 so Indianapolis clearly knew how to protect a QB, but they let their line go to shit and Luck start getting creamed.

All this Burrow shit talk. He's gonna come back and be a baller. Bengals offense should be exciting this year. Team will still probably only win six games though. Think the DL is still a massive liability and QBs will have tons of time to throw against them.

Luck is a bad example as he played far more physical than he should have to have a long career. That whole running and talking shit after taking a hit like he was a bad ass, well, now you ain't playing anymore.

As I am not a bengals fan...did they draft nothing but offensive lineman? I know they got a WR but he isn’t blocking any defensive tackles.

They did pick a kicker.

I get that he isn't their star RB or anything, but man the 49ers injuries are already kicking off.
