Well, technically speaking, soldiers are paid to get shot at, office workers are not...

It says in the bible that you're not supposed to build towers. And twins? Really? They were asking for it.

We were out on 15 Dec, so yeah...definitely winding down.

Also, a 34 year old Specialist? He either enlisted way late in life or uh, how do you stay in the military for so long and not make it past E-4? Guessing there are going to be issues with his service record. Very shitty situation.

Unless the rules have changed, reserve/Nat. Guard to active duty or late age starting active duty is the only way. X number of years per rank or gtfo is what I remember but I was medically retired back in 2001 so a decade of fighting two wars could make me wrong.

Lopez served four months in Iraq in 2011 and was being treated for depression and anxiety pending a possible diagnosis of post-traumatic stress disorder. Milley said he wasn't wounded in action but had "self-reported" a traumatic head injury.
Hrmph.

If only one of them had access to a gun, the shooter may have been stopped before he could raise any havok.

I hope that they send armed guards into all military bases like they did with schools!

Obviously the culture of gun ownership is to blame for these endless massacres, why have them if not to use them after all? Most other countries done have this happen because they are for hunting or sport, not for braveheart "freedom".

The guy was a truck driver I think I read, 88M.

This is going to get chalked up as another failure of the military's ability to handle mental health issues. There will be a congressional panel, I'm sure, major investigations, all kinds of dog and pony shows to get to the bottom of something that is pretty damn shallow: fricking crazy guy bought a gun at Wal Mart or whatever and started shooting people. There is no accounting for one crazy with a gun; none. He is going to get the drop on you, every time, because he is totally random and you won't be expecting him.

But will anything really change? Nope. Gun owners on Army bases will probably get some new onerous regulation handed down to them; there will be a safety stand down sometime in the next month; and I think every DoD worker will get required to have some kind of mental health review, I thought I read that was in the pipeline. None of it will do a damn thing to stop the next crazy with a gun, however, because you will never get rid of guns, and you will never get rid of crazy, so it is just something to move on from without letting the knee jerk shit get out of hand.

I own 2 fire arms. Uses fire arms in the service. I have literally zero desire to shoot any living thing.

I'm sure you are being sarcastic but wanting to shoot people is not normal. He was obviously fucked up.

Yeah, I own several guns. I also have little to no desire to go shooting these days. I think last time I went to the range was 2 years ago, maybe 3. My primary sidearm would have an 1/8" layer of dust on it right now if I didn't keep it in a case.

I'm not sure kicking crazy people out of the military so they disappear into the masses, with less supervision and health care is the best plan.

I'm sure they will, but I wouldn't blame the military for this.

These bases are their own little towns. If you think of it within that context, their murder rate seems to be pretty low. I mean after deployments they have lots of suicides and lots of husbands coming home to strangle their whore wives and they probably DO need to do something about those issues. Those issues have solutions and the method is money. But their 1st Degree murder seems pretty low if you look at it as a community. And that's an issue that the solution is only an intolerable level of scrutiny. Intolerable even for military discipline.

It's true. You won't get rid of the guns, and you won't get rid of the crazy. Regimentation and attention can only go so far.
