You have to remember this was originally a straight to streaming movie. It only changed due to the screening reactions. You could tell they spent a lot of money everywhere except the cast. SFX were decent, like most alien films.

Ok I can give it a go that he can be called andy(e), but I don't understand how it was only 20 years after sigorney ejected the alien. And how do they know she ejected it if they are to find her 37 years later.
And how do they make a gun that is smarter with 4x the ammo of a pulse rifle? 40 years prior, it can't be experimental cuz some random junker kid knew exactly how to operate it
At this point they’ve so thoroughly shit on this franchise that, I look at the aspects that made the first two movies great, and its almost not worth recovering, instead just produce new stuff with derivative elements, because they will never give a competent person access to the franchise, its always going to fizzle out
I still haven't watched it, but what have I been saying. It looks like a total turd. I'm sure one day I'll watch it on streaming, but I'm not chomping at the bit to do so. Just more Hollywood shit.
Better off going and rewatching the original trilogy, and reading some of the comics.
Oh man we played the shit out of that as kidsOrdered Alien Trilogy for the PS1. Been wanting to play this for like 25 years. It's basically Doom with Xenos. Probably going to play it quite a bit in Nov. We shall see
Oh man we played the shit out of that as kids
I remember it being fairly hard, lvl 26 I think right out of the elevator you get jumped by 6 xenos
The cast/characters have been part of the downfall of the last three movies like everyone involved forgot how the crew in Alien and marines in Aliens were easily relatable and well constructed. Now a bunch of no-name young actors who would inevitably suck/be insufferable? First red flag for me.He did a bad job. Seems like he just copy pasted the original mostly, with some really dumb stuff added in, and a worthless cast. Like what's up with the butthole eyes black guy? I hate how all these advanced robots in aliens look like some dumb guy off the street. And this robot really was dumb! But I guess it keeps the budget down. They didn't even put the last girl in sexy underwear this time. Just some gay ass boy shorts. Couldn't even get that part right.
That's the part that made the end of OG aliens so good. You have this giant penis head monster chasing around some young girl in skimpy underwear. This film just shit all over the ending with no sexual tension involved.
I'm the same way with Aliens and Predator being my favorite sci-fi series, but Alien Covenant firmly left me in the position of having zero hope so long as they keep trying to drag this series along.Oh I don't disagree with the fact that the movie looks good, but so did Prometheus, and we all know that was a pile of shit.
And I guess I just have really high expectations for this IP, kind of like people do for stupid Star Wars, but aliens and Predator stuff is always been my jam, and this one just looks retarded.
I think this movie is basically the force awakens of the aliens franchise, or at least from what I've seen review wise and reading what you guys have been talking about.
No one has had the balls to tell Ridley Scott they he lost the plot and what was established in Prometheus and Covenant fucking sucked for Alien. If he wanted to start a completely new sci-fi franchise jerking off Michael Fassbender, by all means, but those two movies completely removed all of the mystery and horror of the unknown that defined Alien and Aliens in exchange for some black plot contrivance goo and jacked albinos. At this point they’ve so thoroughly shit on this franchise that, I look at the aspects that made the first two movies great, and its almost not worth recovering, instead just produce new stuff with derivative elements, because they will never give a competent person access to the franchise, its always going to fizzle out
Spot on.The cast/characters have been part of the downfall of the last three movies like everyone involved forgot how the crew in Alien and marines in Aliens were easily relatable and well constructed. Now a bunch of no-name young actors who would inevitably suck/be insufferable? First red flag for me.
I can't even give the characters the benefit of the doubt because all it took was watching Honest Trailers to hate them all in one sweep.
The second was hearing that they had to keep up with the fucking black goo bullshit.

By the sounds of Romulus, it's just milking the nostalgia while continuing to not understand that not every single thing needs a bloody explanation, "lore," or immersion-shattering connections to other movies and to instead simply leave some things to the viewer's imagination. Calling it the force awakens of Aliens is the best analogy I've heard; hell, it's officially owned by Disney now as well, which is downright depressing.
At this point, I'd rather see a Neil Blompkampf style continuation that completely ignores everything past Aliens and picks up from there.

I saw this behind-the-scenes bit on Youtube and I think it was Geiger himself who said that part of the mystique behind the space jockey was how despite being so massive, we would have no idea what this alien species could be like; they could have been peaceful plant eaters for all we - and the crew in movie - knew, but that's gone now.
Also, each iteration between Prometheus, Covenant, and now Romulus strikes me as them trying the same female protagonist blueprint out of the hopes that somehow they'll catch lighting in a bottle with a remotely worthwhile successor to Ripley, but apparently no one understands what made her character work, never mind the rest of the supporting characters. And I actually liked Noomi Rapace, but Ridley pulled an Alien 3 by killing her offscreen to focus on his gay robot flute playing, just to follow her up with a worse Ripley from Temu and now the 20 year old teenager.
I know some of the rumored storylines that you could easily chalk up to just drafts might have had some rough spots, but I would have loved to see what final product he could have put out.Spot on.
It's such a shame we'll never get the Blomkampf film. Stupid Ridley Scott screwed that up for us.
Here's a good video about the project. It looked really promising which is why Scott can eat a bag of poison dicks.I know some of the rumored storylines that you could easily chalk up to just drafts might have had some rough spots, but I would have loved to see what final product he could have put out.
Blompkamp's Oats Studio shorts are such fun watches with enough DNA to give a rough idea just how cool his take on Alien could have been.
Ridley Scott has had far too many questionable, if not outright stupid decisions for Prometheus and Covenant for his word to be treated like some kind of gospel in terms of continuity, i.e. the black goo and engineers. There isn't even logical consistency between those two movies alone and how any of it is supposed to work, never mind trying to tie into anything seen from any of the prior films. Turning the pinnacle of evolutionary hunting bordering on eldritch horror into the machinations of an angsty robot who wasn't hugged enough by a man who robbed every Spirit Halloween to wear on his face is such an awful explanation to a mystery that was better left untouched.

Watch this channel quite a bit, good stuff.
I thought Prometheus was a pile of shit, albeit, a good looking pile of shit, but you can only polish a turd so much. My beef is that Blombcamp probably could have delivered something we're faithful to the first two films, especially if he had Weaver and Bien on board. The storyboard stuff reminded me of some of the comic books, and if I had a guess he probably got inspiration from maybe reading those.I know people liked Prometheus but this would have for sure been better than Covenant.
If you want a good aliens story just play Starcraft 2 again.
My first thought seeing tall skinny guy is that they had Orphan of Kos at home.I want colonial marines back and legit with them spewing non pc language and not have it be a dig where the audience is supposed to be appalled at their language but it’s “fuuuck yeah that’s the real marines I know”
I want the intense music - bishops countdown
Fucking “marines we are leaving !!!”
None of this pussy fucking let me hold my finger up and soft talk to a little black piece of shit on my finger
Motion trackers with the intense pinging noises as the tension builds
New alien variants ….actual aliens not fucking human slender man hybrids

Agreed, I would have had much more faith in Blompkampf's vision, even more so after seeing Prometheus and especially Covenant. They come across as Scott having just binged Ancient Aliens, and now we're witnessing the problem with devoted fandoms who will blindly cope trying to bend over backwards explaining every daft choice being made.I thought Prometheus was a pile of shit, albeit, a good looking pile of shit, but you can only polish a turd so much. I think he would have done the franchise justice.
