You know though, it's real hard to blame her.

If your family isn't gonna come rescue you when you get turned into a sex slave... what's the point of family? A couple of years of beatings and rape isn't a lifetime movie "aww shucks I forgive you" sort of event.

Uhh wtf.. It's not as if they knew she was a sex slave in a basement for the past decade. My question would be how long did they search, where did they search, what else did they do? You have to move on at some point and if they were posting flyers and crap for say a year or two then at a certain point you just have to say shit happens and try your best to move on. If the family had any indication whatsoever that she was in that house and they did nothing to assist, then that is definitely a cause for concern and anger, but obviously that isn't the case.

Would the girl feel better if they searched desperately for five to ten years and then killed themselves out of sadness? Being isolated from her family certainly isn't going to help her at all unless they are just terrible people in general.

Agreed there. I can't imagine not scouring every last place on Earth for my kid. According to that article, vigils were set up for the other two girls, but not for Michelle. This Castro guy forced them to watch the vigils, and Michelle got to see nothing was done for her. No words, fucking cold.

It sounds like her family gave up before the other two, but also she was quite a pain in the ass before her disappearance and they had some reason to believe that she might have just taken off on her own.

Either way, you can't really blame her for her emotions right now. She has been through more trauma than just about anyone I've ever heard of and she deserves to be a mess.

My thoughts exactly. Does a vigil really ease the burden of eleven years of rape, and forced abortions? I can't even imagine living in that environment. Holy fuck I would've killed myself so fast, and if that wasn't possible I would've been severely mentally handicapped from banging my head into the wall.
