Yeah it comes off as kinda meh because all it does is evoke a handful of overused themes. Hopefully that's false impression, but that's what it gave me.

The only thing that got my attention in that trailer/teaser/whatever was Michael Douglas.

You know, I know in Marvel Studios we trust and all, but I just noticed the guy they got to replace Edgar Wright is known forThe Break Up,Bring It OnandYes Man. Talk about a downgrade.

I enjoyed both Bring It On and Yes Man. They weren't anything special, but they were both amusing and entertaining to watch. If Ant Man turns out to be amusing and entertaining to watch, I'll be perfectly happy with it. Would I prefer it be on the same level as Guardians of the Galaxy? Yeah, of course. But I doubt it will be any worse than Iron Man 3 (which I consider the lowest of the Marvel movies since IM1, but still a really fun, enjoyable movie).

Prior to The Winter Soldier, the Russo brothers' biggest movie was You, Me, and Dupree. Marvel tends to go with lesser-known directors (because they are more controllable, according to rumor). I mean, hell, before Guardians of the Galaxy, James Gunn's largest success was writing the screenplays for the Scooby-Doo movies.

That's a little misleading. That was his largest FINANCIAL success. He directed Slither and Super, the first of which was critically loved and the second of which was a bit of a cult hit and sort of in the superhero genre. He was also screenwriter on the Darn of the Dead remake.

He was kind of a hot prospect in Hollywood before GotG, it wasn't a big WTF when he got the job.

I think Kenneth Branagh on Thor 1 was a much bigger surprise. Also the previously mentioned Russo brothers.

My point was if the person who wrote two Scooby-Doo movies can give us Guardians of the Galaxy, it's hard to predict how good Ant-Man will be based on its director's history.

i don't really know landmarks, cuz i haven't seen this one, but i'm sure that's the golden gate bridge, so the easy explaination why ant man wasn't in avengers was cuz he was on the other side of the US, hell possibly stupid west coast avengers shit. Other than that, meh, i'll always say Ant Man is the worst Avenger, and there have been loads of shitty avengers, i'm not even counting the wife pimp slap, hell if it wasn't for that he'd be even more unknown and worthless. and this isn't even hank pym, it's scott lang, an even more worthless ant man.

If i see a scene of michael douglas (hank pym) pimp slap a yoko ono wasp look alike (cuz wasp is asian in ultimate universe), then i'll be all in, cuz that's what he was in the 90's to me, the movie womanizer.

What the fuck are his powers? I am not a comic book person and have never heard of ant man till they started talking about it as a movie. He's just small.. and strong? Or what? He can walk under doors?

His strength grows with his size. He can grow/shrink due to his invention gas/pill whatever background they run with. He is suppose to be super smart, but it looks like they are going with the redeemed felon to help a rich smart white guy out. Also has the ability to talk to instincts with his helmet.

ant man has been used by 3 ppl in marvel 616. lots of spoilers

hank pym is the best known ant man, among the top 9 smartest ppl in the world (include reed and stark) he invented pym particles to shrink his ass down to an ant, he created a stupid looking ant helmet to control ants, and thats it, other than being an original avenger. Currently the MCU has seemingly taken away hank pym's one and only useful claim to fame which is creating the super villian robot ultron. sometimes hank pym has retired being ant man and becomes giant man.

scott lang is ant man 2, he stole the ant man suit and saved his dying daughter, he's just an avg thief, so they make him an avenger, he's later on killed in avengers dissassembled cuz he sucks. his daughter then becomes stature (giant woman) and also dies too, cuz fuck that family tree.

eric o grady is called the irredeemable ant man, cuz he's shady irish prick agent of shield that found the ant man suit, he does some funny things but ultimately dies too, cuz fuck him his story was going no where.

the movie will probably have something like hank pym is a retired ant man, and scott lang broke into hank pyms old bat cave, stole the ant man suit, used it to save his daughter, got arrested, and hank pym got scott lang released to be ant man.

Helmet lets him control insects. And he maintains full size strength(and mass?) when shrunk. So tiny guy, full power punch/kick.

So not mass I guess.

The same technology is later used to also make Hank Pym giant as well, I wouldn't be totally shocked if they used that towards the end of the movie. In fact now that I've mentioned it I'd be kind of disappointed if they didn't.

So I can see how it might be useful to keep your strength when you shrink I assume that works both ways and he keeps his original strength when he gets big. If so, talk about a worthless ability. So I guess he can step over building or something but there is no way he can go through them.

Nah, somehow he gets stronger when he gets bigger. Not massively stronger, but still stronger and more resistant. Don't ask me how.

Pretty sure the physics of that would result in horrific injuries.

In the Ultimates he had the math worked out that his upper limit was like 150 feet or something before the weight would collapse his bones or something. Later on they got passed that somehow.

edit: Actually it wasn't worked out like that, it was the limit his brain would let him get to because he theoretically thought that I guess.

As for strength, it's supposed to increase proportionally.
