Ya, you're fucked living where you are re: home gym. Definitely looking into building my own squat rack. Even used, decent quality ones are pretty expensive. The bench shouldn't be too bad. Been so busy lately my workouts have been consisting of bag work and push/pullups mostly. Also should start looking into finding another, less crowded gym depending on price of putting home gym together.

curious do you guys always do your shakes with milk? with this serious mass shit 2 scoops is a serving size and its a giant amount of powder so it takes a shitload of milk for it to absorb nice and not be chunky i feel like im drinking close to a half gallon when i do 2 shakes, with 2 scoop serving size each. maybe im doing something wrong but it takes a ton of milk for it to not be chunky with their serving size, and im gonna add in just pure whey shakes 2-3 a day so im thinking close to like a gallon a day or something retarded?

I know with the protein its not as much per serving and all that so it wont be as severe but this serious mass is a heap of a serving size.

With my protein shakes, I use 8 ounces of milk. For me it's about getting the extra 120 calories or so. Plus, it tastes way better.

So last Thursday (stupid lifting on july 4th) I strained the fuck out of one of the muscles in my neck. I was straddling the seat above a lat pull down chair and pulling the bar down while keeping arms straight (latimus work). Posture was bad because it was the last thing I was doing for the day and I was tired, and on 3rd set rep #6 or so it twinged (snapped? sounds like more than it was). Since then, it's been largely painful and only goes away when large amounts of alcohol are consumed (hooray drinking on july 4th). I didn't lift Friday or Saturday, and did legs Sunday. Just did cardio yesterday and it's starting to feel better on a daily basis, but still noticeable. Anything else have something similar happen? How long is the typical recovery until it feels back to normal?

You probably pulled a trap. It's happened to me a few times after doing max effort pull-anything without proper warm-up and mobility work. The pain is usually gone after a few days with some residual stiffness/tightness in the general neck/upper back area for a week or so. Do some light stretching and maybe some T-spine mobility work, if there's actual pain present aside from stiffness or soreness after a week it's probably a good idea to see a doctor.

This. I don't know how people can drink it with water. It just tastes awful. Milk4life, yo!
Long ago, I'll never forget it. I was in a locker room after a work out and a guy got out a scoop of his powder and just took it like a champ, taking it like a shot. 4 of us just stood there looking at him in shock.

I seriously hope you are joking with this shit, lmao.

It's protein powder not powdered cow shit.

Are you mother fuckers serious? Acting like it's battery acid.

This sounds exactly like the injury I have been fighting for years. Its currently shut me down completely from lifting and working out this year. Does it feel like more than a pulled muscle, like deep down nerve/bone style injury? Do you have trouble moving your head all the way to one side? Trouble going from lying down to sitting up? Scalpulae Muscle is like a second group under your traps that is impossible to work and stretch at times. But its been a recurring thing for me and it can go off at any time.

Haha, nope I'll never forget it. Everyone who saw it looked at the guy and then we all looked at each other and were all like "wtf, did that just happen?"

I don't know if he ended up going to get a drink or not, right after he did it he put his stuff in his locker and hit the showers. I don't know how you could get all that down without some sort of liquid though.

I honestly thought that we were still on the protein powder with just water, I didn't know you meant dry dry. Yeah thats weird, mainly because thats a lot of powder in most scoops. I miss shit when reading on my phone.

Been chugging along with Starting Strength for 9-10 weeks, and finally achieved the last of my 3 short-term goals on Monday. Working with sets of 100kgs in squat, 110kgs in deadlift and 70kgs in bench.
Looking forward now to a few weeks of working with lower weights and higher rep-counts, before getting back on the SS train in august.

(I know these numbers are low for most people here, but for me they are good achievements

Why are you switching to a new program and then going back to SS, as opposed to just staying with SS? Just curious, because I did the same thing when I did SS. I think I did it for about 3 months and then went to a 4 day split that I'm still using 4 years later (although I haven't been lifting consistently those 4 years). I wish I would've stuck with SS for at least 6 months, if not longer. Mostly because I feel like a lot of my compound lifts should be higher.

As far as your lifts, you should be pretty happy with them with less than 3 months of work (although I don't know your bodyweight). I had a long break before getting back into lifting again, but I've been consistent since late December. I'm currently at working sets of 235lb squat (106kg), 320lb deadlift (145kg), and 190lb bench (86kg). I'm a bit off my PR's for working sets of 275 squat, 375 deadlift, and 195 bench, but that's what taking a year and a half off will do. But I'm also sitting at around 165lb bodyweight at the moment.

Is there a post here with links to the different workout programs people are working on? I'd be interested to see some new ideas instead of going through Gethin's Trainer, or any of the BB.com ones.
