Desmond Miles didn't appear until years later in the original, either. There were other subjects previous to him. Maybe they'll do something chronologically? Or something retarded. :|

If the plot will be that he is recruited by Abstergo they should go the route of making them out to be the good guys for the whole movie, make it a more straightforward adventure / treasure hunt type of thing with assassinations, etc... Then turn it around at the end and introduce the whole Templar vs. Assassin thing, open it up for the sequel. I'd be really surprised if they try to dump all the history of the war, the aliens, and everything else in one swing. After ohk posted it I did some more reading and it sounds like Fassbender is signed on to Produce and has guarantees for sequels so at least he has somewhat of a vested interest in it being good. There's nothing that would be cooler than a good realized Assassin's Creed movie to me, but gotta go with history and say the odds are stacked against us.

woulda been better on HBO as a tv series, but oh well. most likely will suck, but i'm sure the trailer will be epic

its also a brand new storyline supposedly involving the spanish inquisition and torquemada, so we probably won't have altair, ezio, connor, blonde johnny depp, etc

And they went for that generic story?
Fuck me. Altair was awesome, so was Ezio. The story of the Apple of Eden was great, although the story about the alien civilization is really dumb.

Assassin's Creed - AKA What The Macbeth Clan Did Next - reteams Michael Fassbender, Marion Cotillard and director Justin Kurzel for another epic-feeling tale that will weave its way through the pages of history. The new issue of Empire is proud to debut a pair of exclusive stills from the movie showing Fassbender's two characters, 15th-century swordsman Aguilar and his modern-day ancestor Callum Lynch, in action.

Judging by those manacles and that burning pyre, Aguilar, the hero of Ubisoft's stellar gaming franchise, looks like he's just escaped a Macbethian fate here, possibly at the hands of the shadowy Knights Templars.

Meanwhile, his contemporary, Lynch (below), the equivalent of the game's Desmond Miles, is a man forced to relive his ancestor's exploits via a VR machine called the Animus. No, this isn't an outtake from Hunger. The shorn and noticeably gaunter Lynch is incarcerated either as a criminal or a madman, presumably with the Templar's corporate avatars exploiting his connection with the past for their own nefarious ends.

It's a truism to say that there's never been a successful video-game adaption. Lara Croft: Tomb Raider had its moments, Silent Hill has its fans, Prince Of Persia has Jake Gyllenhaal riding an ostrich; none stood repeated viewing. But with Duncan Jones's Warcraft: The Beginning and especially Kurzel's Assassin's Creed, 2016 could well run that old clich? through with a scimitar. Expect parkour and action galore, but with Kurzel's track record, also expect hefty dramatic beats.

Pick up the new issue of Empire on December 31 for more on both those movies, as well as a pile more big preview goodness. Assassin's Creed hits UK cinemas in December 2016.
