I am home sick from work with what seems like the worst ever 24-48 hour cold/flu ever, so I got the premium edition upgrade and playing on PC via GamePass. I've just got to the first city and picking up quests and it seems just OK so far. Having watched a bunch of reviews both positive and negative, it seems more like "meh" from some reviewers than bad, with some people really liking it, or saying they really liked it Fextralife seemed to be the most high on it of those I watched, IIRC talking about spending 100+ hours on it. Despite the people who worked on it being Woke and tons of weird color pallete and furry potential, its non-offensive so far. Garrus' voice actor is playing first companion snake dude Kai. I had multiple crashes (UE Alabama crashes) until I repaired the files after install but haven't had one since. Saves were always pretty close to where it crashed. It seems to be just the GamePass version having this issue, though. Edit: Some Steam users reporting the issue on Reddit as well.

Edit: More crashes. Some people are reportedly able to fix it by forcing DX11 or DX12 via command line but it seems like more of a shader issue to me. Will keep trying things. Steam users do not seem to be having the issue.

Mortismal reviews? Said it was exposition-heavy and Fighter tree seemed light on cool things to do. He was recommending Wizard as well. Several of the other reviewers mentioned they went Wizard as well, so I may change my build plans; it seems like that is supposed to be easy to do along the way. I was not saving my health potions at all and it took me a few tries to get past the tutorial boss due to being unable to heal, and not having a roll or dodge. Elden Ring/POE2 has broken me. Or fixed me, depending on how you look at it.

Edit: Just FYI no falling damage it seems. Playing wizard skills with a wand feels like Hogwarts Legacy as I recall. Will try to spend some time with two handed weapons as well, which was my original concept for the character, two handed melee self healer if there was such a thing. I used to think open skills systems were the bomb, the more I play them the less enticing I find them.

Just from playing it so far, it seems like a mix of a worse version of The Outer Worlds with the bright colors and a dash of DA:VG. As other have mentioned though, the game looks really good graphically.

I just jump like I do anywhere else, combat or otherwise. There isn't any option for Dodge in keybinds either

This guy getting the same UE Alabama crash issues that I am having, except his is crashing right at the start of loading the game. I wonder if Repair would fix this, as it think it causes the shaders to have the cache cleared and be recompiled/recreated. Totally my own theory, just based upon when I getting the crashes and the error messages. If you look at the folder structure, at least when you get it from GamePass (replace where ever you put your Steam Library) X:\XboxGames\Avowed\Alabama\ with UE binaries and content folders. I assume there is going to be a Day One patch to address some of this but the crashes are pure old school Obsidian.

If you watch the whole review, Luke actually likes the game, it just flat out is a pain to play for him. Now that I am into more of the meat of the game, its actually fun; I really enjoy the combat at this point (Just out past the Palisades and looking for the StrangleRoot, no spoilers). Hearing and talking to Garrus in Snakeman form is awesome as well. Some of the characters are written poorly for the setting but its a minor issue.

Edit: At the end of the video, Luke mentions he worked with the Devs to try to fix his issues, which means surely he tried those things. Mine seems to be time based, that over time the issue seems to creep in and then boom crash. Luke mentions that he had much less issues with crashes playing on the Xbox Series X. So maybe play there or just restart every so often; definitely save often. I may break out some tools and look at what the AMD driver crash logs are reporting if no one comes up with anything good tomorrow while I am at work.
