Not sure what I did but these asshole tieflings are attacking me whenever I walk by, even if I pass the check. Finally said ok I’ll go to jail, then snuck out, then they just keep trying to kill me. Guess I’m going to join the goblins and kill them all.
You can't just go around stealing shit! If someone sees you, they call the guards. I think owned items are marked when in boxes and laying around. Patrols will notice items missing and look for the thief. Even if successful, shopkeepers will notice they were pickpocketed, then look for the thief, about 20 seconds after you stop talking to them. Any NPC hunting thieves have a max range they will look and eventually reset. When you break out of jail, you are still a criminal.

You may be able to still recover the good path:
  1. (info about the jail specifically) There is a back path out of the jail to get away w/o killing anyone.
  2. (small bit of info on chapter 2/3 goblins/tieflings which heavily influence peoples choice) The tieflings have a vendor that sells some good shit in the future chapters, but you aren't really lacking in good items in this game.
  3. (bit of info about late chapter 1 goblin interactions that could allow you to recover rep) I haven't tried this personally, but I know you can double cross the goblins later and side with the druids, which might make up for your thieving ways in the eyes of the tieflings. I did double cross the goblins in a playthrough, just not while also KOS to the tieflings.
There is plenty of XP in the game, so no need to worry about missing a few quest here or there. It's impossible to see everything in one playthrough and (I find) it's more fun to do the first playthrough mostly blind (no walkthroughs or guides).

Agree with Astarion having the best overall storyline, followed by Shadowheart and Lae'zel

Gale has the best.

If you decide to just blow up everyone at once, ask me how I know

I hated Wyll...tried respeccing him to a Paladin because it fit his personality better, but I never wanted to use him because I hated every time he talked. My playthrough got bugged somehow with the Shadowheart romance. I looked up the details afterwards and it seems like I did everything right...there was just some scene that never got triggered for some reason. I was annoyed that I couldn't resurrect the "minor" companions if they died before they were officially in my party. NPCs are so fragile that it was difficult to keep the cannon fodder alive until they were in my party.

Wyll is complicated with all the interactions between his demon and later his dad. His companion quest is easy to screw up. Fucking his demon makes him hate you but it's probably the best sex scene in the game.

I don’t think I stole anything, on purpose anyways. I was near the place when a tiefling outside of town attacked me. Killed her thinking it was just a random encounter. Maybe looting her corpse counted as stealing? It wasn’t a red icon though. Then when I get in town this guy just kept saying something about a specific person said I was harassing kids, I kept passing the various checks but it went back to the same prompt over and over til I went to jail to end it.

I snuck out of the jail and out of the tunnels, eventually another guy saw me near the exit and wouldn’t leave me a long so I killed him too.

It may have had something to do with the kids. I believe there is a dialog option where even if you succeeded the rolls one kid can still go run and get the guards on you, but not sure. I don't recall a Tiefling outside before you get to the druid gate (with goblins attacking), but I'm pretty sure there is at least one that's killed at the gate whos items are owned items.

As for killing the Tiefling outside of town on your escape, I dunno if that will cause any extra issues or not. My off the wall guess is that if no one saw you kill the NPC, then no one knows you killed them. They made the game in a way that some branching paths can come back around with other choices, so you may get similar end results, just by a different path.

Either way it's not the end of the world in the grand scheme of things. Like a lot of stuff.

Yeah I guess I’m just going to side with the goblins, they’re letting me walk around without bothering me. I also recruited three ogres that say they’re going to come beat some ass when I blow on a horn as long as they can eat the corpses.

Maybe I’ll play again in the future and side with tieflings, try different classes

The best is if you're with Shadowheart when you do that - she shit talks the demon by saying that now that you have tasted inferior goods, you'll realize how good you have it with Shadowheart lol

I think if you play a drow you start off okay with the goblins. I did not play a drow but I walked around all over the goblin camp and used the traders then killed everyone in it. I used the horn killing the gnolls. If the leader of the ogres dies you can loot the intellect helm, I think it's available by doing something for him too.

By the way, does anyone play with a controller on the PC? I have this super annoying bug or something where my character will randomly spin in a different direction when I stop moving. It's not the controller itself as I've tried different ones. I've disabled Steam input and that didn't make a difference.

I recently fired this back up. I burned my arm a little bit last night and was trying not to move it too much so I tried a controller for the 1st time (on PC). Gave up quick. Mouse & KB for me. If it's a game that was obviously made for consoles I'll play with a controller (gave up being mad about it years ago) but this game begs for KB&M , just like most shooters.

I wish I could use controllers. Elden Ring was definitely built for it. Directional dodging with keyboard and mouse is impossible. Luckily you don't really have to be able to dodge well to beat the game. Thank you mimic tear and panic roll.

Around the PS3 era I made myself learn to use a controller. Same with right handed mice (I'm very left handed). Mainly because my brother and nephew wanted to play whichever COD came out then and I was getting my ass handed to me.

Monk is objectively better with a controller.

As controller schemes go, its not too bad unless you maining a spell caster with a ton of flayer and other abilities to go with all the potions crammed on the wheel. Good news is you can manually sort the wheel how you like. Bad news is if you ever respec, its all out the window. That aside, its pretty much the Larian controller scheme which they have had three games to work on. The real issue is the fucking inventory system, but most games are terrible at that and having a KB/Mouse does not make that any better.

Yeah I just send everything to camp but it's a fucking nightmare trying to sort the camp chest.

And I lost my fucking necronomicon book putting it in a backpack in an early camp not understanding it wasn't a permanent container.

Well I finally got around to playing this game last night and I have to say, games like this usually aren't the type of thing I get all hyped about but this is absolutely fantastic. Probably my favorite RPG these days that isn't made by Bethesda, truly a standout title in this day and age, almost reminds me of Bioware RPG's during their GOAT era.

Only two things I don't really like about it, the dice roll system being one of them, and the way it has made me go about saving would be another. Like I don't mind the dice roll feel when it comes to combat, but I hate how it can affect interactions. I mean I get how this is Dungeons and Dragons and how they're sticking to the feel of that, but I hate having my success in interactions being decided by literal blind luck, just a casino-esque roll of the dice. This brings me to the second thing, which is how it makes me want to save all the time because the autosaves are apparently very sparsely spaced out and you never know when you will have some encounter where one bad dice roll can fuck up the way you would want to progress. So I'm falling into a save often and savescum strategy when I get to a part where a bad dice roll fucks me up.

Outside of that though I am blown away by the depth. Characters are fun, I like how I can basically play the game however I like and make whatever decisions I like. This isn't one of those RPG's where the devs try to railroad or force your decisions, I feel like I can truly approach any interaction however I like. The characters have also been a lot of fun and I like how the devs truly made a mature game for mature audiences, not some "lets make an M rated game but still try to please concerned parents/activists" sort of approach. It's no wonder it's become such a standout title this gen. Larian feels like one of the few big devs that doesn't have their head up their ass right now.
