While he brings up some decent points his entire premise is flawed. While overall a company's bottom line is their bottom line, different divisions don't share revenue they way he is calculating.

The DVD, toy, and licensing money A) Most importantly, doesn't count towards the movie division, and B) in regards to toy/licensing, is money coming in regardless.

He notes that Batman makes 500mil a year from licensing, superman makes 277, so combined they make 777 million dollars a year, but a shitty BvsS overlap film can potentially drop the licensing money down to just 200 million extra. He then combines that with 300mil in DVD sales to make this case that BvS can flop and somehow not end or seriously set back the DCU run. He's retarded.

The shitbox Superman Returns made nearly half as much on DVD as it did in domestic box office and totally helped put the film in the black and Bryan Singer still sat by the phone waiting for a call that never came for that sequel, and it totally set back supes movies for nearly a decade.

Bottom line, the movie needs to do the 800-1bil that he estimated it would need to not flop, in order to not flop. That the studio isn't going to go broke if it does flop, because they have alternate revenue streams, licensing, dvd, and other ways to recoup costs is fucking irrelevant.

It's like saying that a mutual fund that has enough diversity in it's portfolio, that even if it does bad, will at least match inflation, will continue to be traded because it's not losing money. No mother fucker, the whole point is to make profits, and if this fund isn't making profits there are other places to spend that money to make money.

For me the point is more the fact that it's a live action big budget movie with Batman and Superman in it, the two most iconic Superheroes ever created. MoS was in the black before it released and didn't even feature Batman, a more popular character.

It's either Internet doom mongering or some marketing to build more interest just before the movie releases to possibly rave reviews.

If they have a 2-man threeway with wonder woman at some point, I predict good ticket sales.

Transformers 9 made money, this will make money. But I won't be seeing it in theaters.

I was talking to an acquaintance of mine about this movie. He's like, doesn't it look awesome?! I then told him all the things I saw wrong with it.

1. Jesse Eisenberg. Hating Jesse Eisenberg in just about everything is kind of subjective, but it's hard to argue he's just not very threatening as Lex Luthor, at least based on the trailers.
2. Everything wrong with Superman fighting Batman, ie: this thread.
3. Everything wrong with Superman being introduced as an alien that immediately proceeds to wreck a city, instead of a farmboy raised in Kansas who stands for truth, justice and the american way.
4. Why Doomsday is fucking stupid, and why they shouldn't have shown him in the trailer. Or used him at all for that matter. (insert Max Landis link)
5. Wonder Woman out of nowhere, who by the way is a (hot) stick figure, not an amazonian type.
6. Everything is grimdark. Works for Batman, doesn't work for Superman or Wonder Woman.

He then is like, well what about the marvel movies?!

I then said all the things marvel studios has done right. Basically the characters are for the most part true to their origins. The casting is done well. Things aren't particularly grimdark except in a few places. There's some humor injected into the proceedings. In places, the movies just don't take themselves too seriously. Etc, etc.

Once I pointed all of this out, he kind of agreed with me, but I could tell he never put much thought into it before, and doesn't really care either way. I get the feeling that he just wanted to see shit blow up and see superheroes fucking shit up, coherence, source material, and good movie making be damned.

TL;DR There's a lot of mouth breathers out there who just want to see shit blow up and/or follow the latest trend, so this movie will make money initially unless it starts getting really poor word of mouth reviews.

P.S. FUCK DC

It's almost as if the vast majority of the population isn't comprised of comic nerds who cry when it doesn't stick to the source material of their greatest pleasure.

Note: I didn't care for any of the dark knight movies or man of steel but it wasn't because of some whiney comic origin shit, I just didn't think they were good movies.

You haven't stopped trolling in this thread. You are magnificent.
Dark Knight is almost as full of plot holes and shitty writing as Dark Knight Rises. Try watching it without your vision obscured by having Batman balls deep in your mouth.

Gavin is right, Joker carried that shit hard.

Shitty action, convoluted plot, faking Gordons death, rebuilding a bullet to get a fingerprint only for it to be a set up? Dents turn, NO MORE DEAD COPS, Bale going 110% with the growl. While it wasn't Rises bad the movie was kind of a mess.

Not sure why one of the main characters carrying it is such a negative. Only thing I didn't like about the movie was the bat-voice.
