It's been a long time since I watched this but what part was "magic" exactly? All I remember is certain characters leaning heavily into prophecy and some of the cylons becoming basically Christian-lite.
Most everything revolving around Baltar was magic and it's what often pushed the story forward until season 3. From the "angel" constantly telling him a whole slew of information he could not know, so he could help advance the plot with it, to the whole episode where the "angel" physically alters the video footage so Baltar wouldn't get caught (only once he starts believing in god).

On the human side, the whole prophecy shown to and centered around the president is all magic used to advance the plot as well.

Ah I always took the baltar stuff to be delusion and some sort of chip implant or something by the cylons.

That's a weird take seeing as how the show unambiguously demonstrates that she's really an angel, just like the version of Baltar that only Caprica Six could see.

Seemed like psychosis to me *shrug*. The guy just genocided his people so it always seemed more basic explanation. Sounded more like an excuse he made up to justify his actions.

It wasn't a chip. Head Six and later Head Baltar were real entities. Their whole goal was to ensure human/cylon hybrids would become a thing because that was the plan of "god", who also hates being called god. That is why I think it was a simulation universe at the end. The show kept bringing up the "all this has happened before and all this will happen again" idea constantly.

I thought morons I mean mormons believe in a multiverse, where every moron gets to be a god in their own pocket universe when they die.

Yea I missed that somehow. What specific scenes in the show claim this? I thought it was always just sort of handwaved away as mystical/crazy and kind of left open.

Like in the very last episode? Don't remember it at all.

I just read the wiki apparently I really don't remember the ending at all because it's even dumber than I remembered.

The "twist" ending, the Starbuck is a ghost maybe but sort of but no really, and generally most of the last season as fucking terrible. Do you know when it started? When they anachronistically used All Along the Watchtower as the song to activate the last 4 Cylons. What a fucking joke.

Most of us were in our 20's during BSG (2004)'s hey-day. You couldnt convince me to sit down long enough in my 20's most of the time, and if I did - the story had to be encapsulated into that singular episode. I remember watching Mind Freak, then changing the channel to BSG enough that I was aware of when the show was coming on. But it seemed like Sci-Fi (or was it Syfy then?) was always playing a fucking rerun of it. I really tried to tune into Stargate Atlantis when I was home, too. But between being a fresh out of the Army work-a-holic and a functioning alcoholic, my 20's was a blur.

So in a way, the last season in this time period being complete shit isnt all that important. Because in the early 2000's, we still had plenty of public places to go out and mingle with women that wasnt at the bar, church or work.

EDIT: I didnt finish thread b4 my thoughts but I see it was handled somewhat.

Given the ending and him and her standing watching like 1999 american, I didn't think magic, but the thought of some level of undefined god/whatever in actual play the whole time. With Baltar certainly plenty of mysterious ways type stuff.

I think the biggest wtf for no explanation is the whole starbuck disapears, then later they find her crashed corpse on the one planet. Then poofs at the end. THat's a pretty extreme case of physical manifestation beyond just kinda otherworldly thoughts/visions for some folks.

That part was stolen or borrowed from the original series though. Starbuck dies and gets brought back to life near the end.

Started watching this again after seeing this thread bumped. Just finished 1st season and can feel it is a bit sloggy from time to time but still holds up. Doubt my overall experience will be ruined as I remember a lot of what happens left. 100% better than most all shows the last few years even with flaws. Really shows how bad tv has gotten.
