Did you get the CAADX 105? I'm just about to pick one up myself, for the local rail trails around here and the occasional CX event (which I'll no doubt get murdered in, but hey). Shitload of bike for the money.Picked up my CAADX and it's night and day switching to that from my Gary Fisher HiFi for commuting (yeah I know a full suspension is hardly ideal but it's all I had!). Not been ona bike since last summer though and my arse feels like I've been passed around the new-boy block at prison. 20 miles per day commute so should drop this winter weight fairly soon.
Why not just go to White Rock Lake and do like 8-9 laps? That'd be a century and the scenery is really good and you wouldn't deal with cars much if at all.Aren't there some Dallas people here? If so, does anyone know a good century ride (full, not metric) in the Dallas area in the fall/winter? My sister moved down there several months ago and I'd like to go down and do a ride with her towards the end of the year, but without either of us having any real experience down there it's hard to know a good century to pick. We wouldn't want anything too "pro" (i.e., crazy hills, aggressive expected finish times, etc.) since she is a really casual rider. For reference, it took her just over 8 hours to finish a fairly easy century we did on the flat Eastern Shore of Maryland recently.
That's the sort of thing I would do on my own as a training ride or recreational ride. We like the whole event aspect of doing official centuries: large groups of people, roads/paths we otherwise wouldn't ride, rest stops with food/drink, official start/finish line, and of course the t-shirt. They're fun alternatives to just going out and riding 100 miles on your own.Why not just go to White Rock Lake and do like 8-9 laps? Was going great until last Friday at the track when after my first race, I noticed my seatpost had a wobble in it. Upon further inspection it looks like my seat tube to top tube joint is starting to crack. Now I get the joy of trying to save for a new frame. How's your spring going, bros?
So I just have a $600 or so bikesdirect bike. What frame are you looking at for 700? Is it CF/Ti? What else would I need if I got a frame like you're talking about and a full Ultegra groupset? It would be some assembly required but are the parts mostly standard?Fuck going into debt because of a hobby. Frame I want is only like 700 so should have the money within a month or so if I lay low.
It's a track bike that I'm picking up so a whole different beast than a road bike.So I just have a $600 or so bikesdirect bike. What frame are you looking at for 700? Is it CF/Ti? Nah my BD bike is Tiagra. I'm talking about if I just buy a full Ultegra groupset and a frame from wherever you're talking about. It's a track bike that I'm picking up so a whole different beast than a road bike.

If you are looking to upgrade a BD frameset, there are plenty of options. Everything should swap over if it's ultegra or 105. The only possible thing that might not is the headset since a lot of frames are going tapered now.
Edit : Bottom bracket stuff might be an issue too, I'm terrible with the new bb30 garbage so I'm not too knowledgeable about it.
You'd have to talk to a real bike mechanic about that since 11 speed is the new cool guy thing and there might be compatibility issues with your old wheels.Nah my BD bike is Tiagra. I'm talking about if I just buy a full Ultegra groupset and a frame from wherever you're talking about.
