And make sure to murder the brain afterwards, once it's in the dark area - I didn't and had to do a full NG+ basically to get that part for Chalice stuff.
What do you mean? I dropped the big brain down the pit, but never had a chance to get anywhere near it. Didn't think dropping down a seemingly bottomless pit after it was a good idea at the time.

There's an elevator to get down there safely, inky blackness that he lands in. Takes a while to find though.

The elevator is in the area before Micolash, where there's huge holes in a tiled floor area. There's some armored dudes that shoot at you with crossbows in that area. There's an elevator cage there, you'll notice it because of the glowing green button you can stand on.

That room is past the big spider and the hunter on the bridge.

Rom in the Chalice dungeon is a lot easier to beat than in the regular game. Those pillars make a huge difference in the fight.

I don't know, there are two ways to look at it. The story rom your were able to just completely ignore the spiders since they were spread out enough that when you engaged rom only like 1-2 were in range to hit you and you could keep any eye on them.

Chalice rom would not allow you to ignore the spiders, there are too many in such a small area, at least for me. The pillars give you cover from his ranged attack so that you could lure out and kill at least some of the spiders before engaging after the first port.

For story Rom, I tried ignoring the spiders the second attempt (died to the his meteor arcane whatevers first time) and completely failed. Seemed like they'd always hunch Rom enough to make it super dangerous to engage him. For my third attempt I just methodically took them all out and he was easy. I also never let myself get far enough away that he would cast the meteor spell, just the one that shot rocks up from the ground.

Chalice Rom it's just more sensible to kill the spiders before engaging him IMO

Question (i'm way behind). After killing Vicar, I know you can head out of the cathedral and to the right to move forward. I went left and fought two hunters in front of some buildings, followed the secret path and killed everything. Eventually got into a big cathedral looking building with a closed door and a vortex that would suck me in. Is there anything down there for later, or is it just a dead end?

Yes, eventually you can acquire an item to get past that area.

If you want a more specific answer....

When you get to the Forbidden Woods, there will be this one obvious house with a red lantern outside of it. Talk to the dude in it, and he will give you a Tonsil Stone key. This will help you get past that door. In reality, it won't actually open the door. You just stand at the door as if you were gonna open it, then let the vortex suck you in, but instead of killing you, it will teleport you to the Nightmare Frontier area.

Small correction, teleports you to first floor lecture building not directly to nightmare frontier

Take it from me, you are going to want to go to the right first and move forward.

It opens up the ability to equip your runes

I didn't go right until after I had been to the forbidden woods and defeated the boss there. Needless to say I missed out on a huge step in character progression.

Gotcha, thanks guys. Avoiding as many spoilers as I can. I was just curious if that area was something I would miss but it looks like I'm meant to come back later.

You'll actually get teleported right to that room when the door opens. Mighty nice of them, really. Until you find what's on the other side, anyway.

It's also a usable door after Rom or so as well. (It's the walking entrance to The Unseen there)

Working from home has afforded me some playtime today.. oops.

Killed Vicar (2nd try, first try I did not know about healing

), the witch (died, got stuck in a wall glitch), and now traversing through forbidden woods. That place can fuck right off. I have pretty good map awareness, even without a map, like I'm an aspie or something, but that place is just shitty all around. I went to the clinic and died to the bitch there, then read online that you should wait to kill her so I'll do it later. Opened the shortcut at least.

Too addicted to this.

Not really true. You only need to wait to kill her if you mess up and get the whore killed. If you kill her early you get a rune instead of a 4th item that you only need 3 of.

Fuck, man. NG++ is a joke. Still netting same amount of souls as NG+. Wish I'da known. MOB HP pools/damage have increased noticeably.

Yeah, NG+ is a massive increase and then NG+2 and beyond add like 10% more blood echoes each time you go up a level.

Has anyone finished all of the chalice dungeons? I killed the Pthumerian Queen etc but I haven't really messed with the dungeons I didn't have to do in order to access her.
