Borderlands - The Pre-Sequel

Missions are very repetitive is the common complaint.
Another "complaint" that's a given for a Borderlands game.

We just need a "the graphics are basically the same" to get the whole trifecta on expected complaints in Borderlands reviews.

I can't think of a single mission in BL2 that was repetitive, except the arena thing at the end to get those insane levels but that was by design.

Talking story missions? I'd agree - but 80% of the "missions" in the game were all the sidequests that were all just generic collect/FedEx/otherwise that we've all seen in MMO's even before Borderlands for years. I was assuming they were complaining about the missions in general, not the story missions.

If they were talking story missions, then that sucks - otherwise expected.

Even the "fedex" missions had some unique dialogue to make it better, Scooter can talk in my ear all day.

Yeah playing video games is my hobby. Some people act like it is their entire existence. They can be shitty human beings but as long as they're not funding ISIS and only post shitty stuff on twitter that isn't enough to rustle me.
Same here. I play games that I find fun, and Borderlands is probably the best series I've played. Don't give a shit about making some sort of statement because one of the devs is a SJW asshole.

Good dialogue isn't necessarily independent of it being a "repetitive mission" though. You can have tons of repetitive missions with unique dialogue (heck, look at Destiny - VERY repetitive gameplay on the missions, moderately interesting dialogue though)

I don't even see the hate for Randy at all - he misinformed for sure, but he wasn't directly involved with A:CM anyhow - he's no doubt seen shit in a bad state that went through touch up and got fixed in the past and assume A:CM was fixable when it wasn't.
Where did you get the idea that Pitchford wasn't directly involved with A:CM? Whether or not you believe the rumors that he/Gearbox took SEGA's money and used it to make Borderlands instead of A:CM (I do), he is still directly involved with every game Gearbox makes, he was the one that did the E3 presentation showing a game which never existed, and it would ultimately have been his decision to farm it out to TimeGate when he simply could not put SEGA off any longer and something had to be shipped.

As for this game, much as I'd like to say I'm not buying it because Pitchford is a shady motherfucker, or Anthony Burch is a SJW asshole, the real reason is that I just didn't like BL2 much.

I know one team started it and Timegate finished it - didn't realize they did the in between. I thought it was just them directing behind the scenes to other studios completely.

No. Pitchford/Gearbox robbed SEGA blind and ruined A:CM in the process. I hope he fucking dies.

Going to the lowest rated review (2.5/5), from Hardcore Gamer, there are some things that (other than the gamergate stuff) make me not want to pre-order it at least.

It should also be noted that this is the shortest Borderlands game by far. It took us roughly 25 hours to complete everything in a single playthrough, that?s including the post-game ?raid? boss, which is just a stronger final boss, and all of the side-missions. It?s difficult to determine if it being short is a good or bad thing considering how mediocre most of the content is.
Loot has always been a significant part to what made Borderlands special. There were what seemed like infinite combinations of weapons, and finding the next chest felt exhilarating. Unfortunately, the loot in The Pre-Sequel feels somewhat limited. For one, throughout our entire campaign, no legendary equipment was found outside of a vendor. Every loot chest outside besides those that need 40 Moonstones (which is equivalent to Eridium), almost never includes unique or epic items, and more times than not, useless common weapons will be found. Bosses do occasionally drop good loot, but the equipment that will be most appealing will be found at vendors, making this more of a grind for cash than anything else. It won?t be uncommon to find yourself playing with under-leveled equipment for quite some time.
The problem is that Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel can be incredibly unpolished in spots. We ran into multiple occurrences where we had to quit out of the game in order to clear things up, including having NPCs block the way, not open specific passages and even our characters put in what seemed like slow motion animation when moving. There were so many instances where, in a ?Fight for your Life!? state, our characters were unable to shoot their weapon at all, resulting in an unnecessary death if no one was around to revive them. It?s also something to mention that the number of geometry that can be passed through is exhausting. There are railings, rocks, spawn caves, and so many other places on Elpis that didn?t include a proper collision detection. On the other side of the spectrum, invisible walls are found sometimes in the weirdest spots, not allowing the player to fully venture where they clearly should be able to. This is an open world RPG so it?s somewhat expected to have a couple of bugs here and there, but the lack of polish can be staggering at times and it almost feels like an unfinished game because of it, causing nothing but frustration.

Is 25 hours short for a playthrough? I'm not sure how long a BL2 playthrough came out to, but I have 2 characters that completed all the way through and finished Ultimate Vault Hunter (3 or 4 playthroughs) +all 4 DLC's from the season pass on both chars, and lots of raid boss farming and I have 200-ish hours played. Other stuff sounds like it could be patched up (frame rate/optimization) or will be a bit of a pain (collision).

It's shorter, though not by a whole lot. Iirc first playthrough of both the first games was around 35hours for full completion and not optimizing. Unless he means 25hours for all the playthroughs(not sure if it resuses the system where you finish at half max lvl, then finish the game again etc).

Loot complaints from that sounds like they never used the grinder, apparently three of the same type gives you higher rarity weapon, highest rare+moonstones=bonus stat. Awesome to find loot on bosses but I will take the additional option.

Good times, playing Nisha for my solo play through and her action skills works like a aimbot hack, easy to use, great for people that can't aim for shit. I want to see how she plays level 25+ to check out dual pistols, but so far she is meh. The new laser guns are good times, steady short stream of lower damage, fast hitting death.

LOVE the back story on the recurring characters and how it is narrated, going to burn though to scratch the itch than pick it up again once some DLC comes out.

DO NOT OPEN SPOILER UNLESS YOU'VE PLAYED AT LEAST 5 HOURS!
Moxxi being a redneck mechanic JUST like her son is fucking awesome, really ties together why Scooter is a mechanic and where they came from, going to really fuck with the cosplayers heh

What was the overall consensus? A 7-8 doesn't always mean terrible for me because Dynasty Warriors games get far less and I still love the repetitive iterations of those games.
7-8 is average. so yeah. Usually means good enough. and if you like that specific genre, etc, more then.

I don't know if I'm biting on this. might wait for sale.

BL1 and 2 I think were rated like 78 and 83 from Metacritic, so a 7 or 8 seems to be right in line with the others. Can't wait to play this tonight.

Hatorade: I absolutely agree with most of what you say there - but not on the quality of Nisha - Nisha is a fucking house. I'm playing her as well, and the combination of her normal output and showdown coming up so often for badasses she's just simply brutal. She narrows what weapons are viable for you of course, but fuck she's a beast.

Wife's sitting next to me wailing on the same monster with a better weapon and I can be on my third kill with showdown 90 degrees away before she's even finished getting targetting on the second. (And she's not THAT sloppy on her aim)

I agree she is a beast, aim bot for a special is what is meh. I think my issue is the gameplay is exactly like BL2 and being a noob is kinda boring after the experience that is endgame BL2.
