We need to teach men to not rape, just like we teach kids to not lie. Then nobody would ever rape, just like nobody ever lies.
This is the kind of retard logic we're getting from the feminist movement at this point. It's embarrassing.
I was gonna stay silent because I actually agree that this backlash against Miss Nevada's response is pretty ridiculous.
However, you bring up an interesting point.
Officially, we do teach kids not to lie. Inevitably, they grow up to be liars just like everyone else. Why is that? Could it be because we lie to them from a young age for a variety of reasons (protect them from harsh truths, maintain a pleasant illusion, etc)? Maybe because we put them in situations where the truth can have negative consequences (ie: after doing something bad)? Or is it because the older they get, the more they realize that the world is full of lies? While we might tell kids to their faces "Lying is bad, you shouldn't lie", the culture they grow up in teaches them the exact opposite: That lying is a way of life.
Similarly, we officially teach everyone that rape is bad and we shouldn't do it. We're doing a decent job of it, as rape numbers are down, but why not consider why rapists rape at all? No one is born a rapist, just as no one is born a liar. One altogether reasonable suggestion is that culture tells men that they have sex coming to them, that they are owed it. Men who take this to heart get all kinds of fucked up when they aren't getting any and can't understand why. A man isn't a man unless he's got a place to park his dick, right? A lot of the time this is where feminists are coming from when they get annoyed at suggestions being made to women about how to react to rape. They see that as energy that should be going into preventing the idea that men are owed sex just for being men and thereby reducing rape altogether. They think that telling girls to take self-defense courses is akin to saying "boys gonna be boys, you prolly gonna get raped, better learn to deal with it". Again, I don't think it's a bad idea for girls to learn self defense (or boys, for that matter, as anybody might be put in a situation where it could come in handy), just as it's not a bad idea to buy a bike lock even though people shouldn't be trying to steal your bike. I'm just trying to give you a little perspective here.
Heck, maybe our banned lonely virgin friend wouldn't have considered suicide if he didn't feel he was doing something wrong by being an antisocial virgin. Maybe that MRA guy who just shot a bunch of people wouldn't have done so if he didn't feel he was being deprived of what he deserved. We can argue 'till we're blue in the face about whether terms like "rape culture" have merit, but we have flesh and blood examples of the negative consequences of teaching men that they have earned sex by being male and that they are failures if they don't get it.
This has been your daily voice of reason.
