Alright, time for a recap:

After countless pages of completely pointless huffing and puffing, it turns out that my original post:

However, whether or not you realize it, you still had several advantages afforded to white males. You could go shopping without store clerks eyeing you like a hawk waiting for you to shoplift something. You could take public transit and not feel the eyes of strangers staring and judging your attractiveness regardless of how you dress.

Also, you should be aware that by saying that you equate "acting dumber" with "acting less white", you are being an asshole who gives the whole "check your privilege" crowd plenty of fuel for their ire.

I don't see it any more, but that video of Louis CK is basically Louis CK checking his privilege. He's a professional comedian so it happens to be hilarious, but he's acknowledging that it is advantageous in today's society to be white. If you agree, you have successfully checked your privilege. Congratulations.

I refuse to check my privilege; I choose to live in ignorance.

It's a passive-aggressive statement made to create indignation while maintaining innocence. By asking others to 'check their privilege' and acknowledging your own, you are absolving yourself of any guilt. It's new-age white guilt, now available for being anything!

I fucking love you right now. Western civilization has done a shitload of good to the world and it does irritate me at times when we have people like Dumar and others act like it is all evil. However, I can make that statement and still acknowledge that I had advantages that others did not have.

America has committed a lot of evil both at home and abroad. And for no particularly good reason in many of those cases. We've never really been threatened from abroad in any serious way, our costliest war was our civil war, we lost as many soldiers in the civil war as we did in all of our other wars put together. We've gone to war by choice a BUNCH of times now. We've done a lot of good in the world too, but there's a very real possibility that the US really IS just a violent, evil cult of money, given everything we've done. I mean think of everything we've done when we've never been threatened with total annihilation like the Russians or the Jews, or heavily sanctioned into oblivion like post WW1 Germany. If we've been this big of a bully for no really good reason, just imagine how evil we'd be if we ever were threatened like that. And that's why we have to be VERY fucking careful with who controls the political and military apparatus of this country. We constantly have to be vigilant of our own behavior.
