I don't understand that article. It isn't ironic when someone who uses believes there is this thing called patriarchy wears an "I Bathe in Male Tears" shirt. When the article was posted about the computer science class I read it and aside from one very small complaint about using gendered language (the macho effect)to explain a behavior that is not gender specific (take up class time showing off) I think it's fine. I am all for making an introductory class like that as friendly as possible. I don't want people having a negative experience at the outskirts of an important field and just abandon it.

I've had a similar argument over the "everyone gets a participation trophy" for children's sports. Sure, it's kind of a dumb idea but I want everyone to be able to try whatever sports they want to try without having it turn into some big fucking donkey shitfest. There's plenty of time later for the competitive douchebaggery. This is just where you learn how to play the game and whether or not you like it or have any talents for it. That's how I see this 100 level required computer science class. It should be a safe, friendly place where you teach people about computers and coding and shit. If you want to learn more or you find out you have a talent or maybe you just really like it than good news, we offer more classes. I'm on Mist and Tanoomba's side.

But goddamn they won't stop punishing me for being on their side. They are both so caustic and unfriendly that I actively don't want to agree with their general position. I'm just like that young woman in the computer class being turned off to the entire tech industry by a few loudmouths in a classroom. They are doing to me exactly the thing they don't want done to others.
