Yolandi Visser. Die Antwoord is the rap group she's in with Ninja. Funny, she was probably the only likable character in the movie outside of Chappie himself.
I liked all the characters except for Ninja, really. The plot isn't anything great but the action is pretty good and I do like how the characters interact with each other.

The way I would describe this movie would be "Die Antwoord's version of the Wu Tang Clan's Man with the Iron Fists."

Well then definitely not seeing it. RZA's Man with the Iron Fists is probably one of the worst movies I have ever seen, and I love cheesy kung fu movies. From the dialogue to the overall story to the entirety of Russel Crowe's character (seriously, dude got paid to be out of shape and fondle late teens chinese girls for 2-3 the movie. Good for him, bad for the film) it was just a trainwreck and my eyes couldn't possibly roll further back in my head through 90% of it.

Like the guy just went "here's a lot of shitty tropes from kung fu movies. Lets get a couple of big name actors and misuse them completely while just slapping in random tropes occasionally."

Sad to hear this film didn't turn out to be the next big thing, but when I saw that Die Antwoord was acting in it, I knew it was going to be something other than amazing.

that was definitely one of the most bizarre aspects of the movie. "Lets see I've got Sigourney Weaver, an academy winner scifi iconic actress, Hugh Jackman, and Dev Patel. Fuck em, I'll just have them in for a few minutes and spend 90% of my scene time with two white south african rappers who have never done a movie."

I want to see this movie but it looked jumbled? Neiil Blomkamp came out a week or so said Elysium sucked ect and he cant really write a story after a point, sounds like ADD ect. With that said I dont want his cgi/fx to go away. His visuals look amazing but his direction sucks. Prometheus

Here is one of the articles
Neill Blomkamp: I | EW.com
"I feel like, ultimately, the story is not the right story," Blomkamp says of the script for the film. "I feel like I executed all of the stuff that could be executed, like costume and set design and special effects very well. But, ultimately, it was all resting on a somewhat not totally formed skeletal system, so the script just wasn't there; the story wasn't fully there."
He didnt comment on Chappie but there was another article where he mentioned that he really cant write a story, just come up with a great concept.

I like listening to Die Antwoord, some of their stuff is good. Some of their stuff is fucking weird and makes absolutely no sense.

Sounds like a District 9 variation on a theme.

I'm just gonna say it. District 9 had a few good scenes and it had amazing effects... but as an American the plotline and the movie in general was piss poor. Talk about your thinly veiled, overlabored metaphors.

Mechsuit was cool as shit at least. It was the parts where people were talking that bored me to sleep.

The premise of AI and how humanity responds to that is interesting. The premise of South African gangs teaching an AI shit is pretty interesting too, in other movies or stories it is always some insulated lab with scientists teaching it. For once I'd like to see what Xzibit can do with some AI. I haven't seen this, kind of a downer that it isn't good. I hope Blomkamp manages to get his shit together.

This guy has never made a good movie. I saw "District 9", it was mediocre. At least M. Night Shyamalan made "The Sixth Sense" before making an entire line of shitastic movies.

Is the premise of every one of his movies "Remember that South Africa exists? There is a reason why you forgot about them, they are pretty shit especially the white guys. Let's see how they would ruin any major event or futuristic technology given to it!"?

720p version is out in the usual places. it was pretty good. the white trash humans were the worst parts of the movie, and the story was pretty simple, but chappie grows on you and the robotic effects were top notch. the last 20 minutes make up for the rest of the movie. its worth a watch.

I really wanted this to be great. Unfortunately you're left with 90% of the movie with white trash SA gangsters. The VFX were definitely top notch, but that is really all that I have positive to say.

HUGE tech plotholes:

Chappie's first couple days were fine, but as soon as he fucking plugged into the internet he should have basically wised up to the stupid gangster shenanigans going on. Despite being attached to the net with his PS4 cluster, figuring out "consciousness transfer" all by himself, he still acted like a naive teenager through the end of the movie. As soon as he got on the net, he should have been the most intelligent being on the planet. Makes no fucking sense whatsoever.

Want to know what that level of AI should look like? Very long read, but well worth it here:

I'd disagree with that,
he plugged in with one purpose, to find out how to transfer consciousness. He wasn't going to waste precious time by clicking every link out there, but the ones that made sense, and if ones he clicked on didn't make sense, he'd just discard them and go backwards to ones that would. He wouldn't keep on clicking down the rabbit hole like most of us when we watch a youtube of puppies and 2 hours later we're on "the universe by carl sagen"

That article just ate 2 hours of my life. Well worth it though, holy shit. Completely interesting throughout, and touched on tons of subjects that have been careening around my brain cavity with abandon recently.
